HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI, Maori Television’s original grassroots talent show, returns for the festive season with two special shows screening on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day at 8.30pm.
The festivities kick off on December 24 at 8.30pm with a show hosted by award-winning presenter Matai Smith, along with Pikiteora Mura-Hita and Brent Mio.
The trio will host a “paki style” Christmas at the beach with the rest of the HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI crew as they reminisce over special performances by entertainers including the Paki Quartet, Maisey Rika, Deane Waretini, Petra Rijnbeek and Sammy J.
Producer Erina Tamepo says it will be a light-hearted, funny take on a paki Christmas.
She says the Boxing Day special goes behind the scenes of this year’s Grand Final, which was won by Gisborne’s Hukanui Brown.
“It’s a look at HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI that most people won’t have seen before. There is a rock concert element to all of the drama behind stage,” Tamepo says.
After seeing how the karaoke show comes together behind the scenes, viewers will be able to sit back and enjoy performances by the Grand Finalists as well as Aotearoa reggae band 1814 and Chad Chambers.
The show will also include appearances from a new character, the Australian Budgie Walden, who fans may remember from the Grand Final. But will the Paki Wardens be able to stop him from taking over this time?
Tune in to HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI on Boxing Day, December 26 at 8.30pm to find out.
