Prime’s new season launch also included the same sentiment used by TVNZ during their launch, that they had a stronger and more exciting range of programmes than ever before. In Prime’s case, it is actually true. Picking up the CBS deal has meant that a number of new shows will air on Prime from one of America’s biggest studios. New shows like Vegas, Beauty and the Beast (starring NZ’s own Jay Ryan) and Elementary will provide excellent new US dramas while 60 Minutes will give Prime their first foray into current affairs. There is also the new look American Idol which will air reasonably close to the US air dates as well. There are a number of great looking NZ shows including a spectacular look at New Zealand From Above and documentary series, Making New Zealand, about the big infrastructure projects that have made us.

In this re-imagining of the original romantic series, Kristin Kreuk stars as Detective Catherine Chandler, a smart, no-nonsense homicide detective with a tragic past and New Zealander Jay Ryan as Vincent, a veteran with a dark secret and a mysterious connection to Catherine. As a teenager Catherine witnessed the murder of her mother at the hands of two gunmen, she would have died too but someone saved her and it was not an animal as she is led to believe. Forensic pathologists Professor Leo Dalton, Dr Harry Cunningham and Dr Nikki Alexander are welcomed to their new home on Prime in one of the BBC’s most successful and longest-running crime dramas. In this series, Leo comes under suspicion for fraud when he cannot produce his post mortem notes for a case he apparently worked on. But before he can prove his innocence, he is violently attacked. Nikki and Harry end up on opposite sides of a high profile case involving the suspicious death of a wealthy banker in her Hampstead home. And Nikki returns to her childhood home of Cape Town when she is hired as a consultant forensic anthropologist by a private investigations firm. STRIKE BACK ACTION SERIES
The hit action series returns, set against the backdrop of timely global issues such as human and drug trafficking, conflict among nations, poverty, danger for international aid workers and child soldiers, Strike Back tells the story of the unlikely alliance between two Special Forces agents, Damien Scott (Sullivan Stapleton) and Michael Stonebridge (Philip Winchester) – one an American renegade, the other an elite British spy – who work together as part of a stealth military unit called Section 20. Their covert efforts are never publicly acknowledged, their leads are few, the choices are difficult and results often come at a steep cost. This season see’s Stonebridge and Scott attempt to overcome the loss of Colonel Eleanor Grant, who died at the hands of terrorist Latif in season 1. Stonebridge has moved from field work and is back in the United Kingdom training Section 20 recruits, while Scott is ordered to the Kenyan desert to secure the transfer of a Libyan functionary seeking asylum. Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis star in this new drama inspired by the true story of former Las Vegas Sheriff Ralph Lamb. Lamb is a fourth generation rancher tasked with bringing order to Las Vegas in the 1960s, a gambling and entertainment mecca emerging from the tumbleweeds. Ralph Lamb (Quaid) wants to be left in peace to run his ranch but Las Vegas is now swelling with outsiders and corruption, both of which are intruding on his simple life. Recalling Lamb’s command as a military police officer during WWII, the Mayor appeals to Lamb’s sense of duty and asks to look into a murder of a casino worker. So begins Lamb’s clash with Vincent Savino (Chiklis), a ruthless Chicago gangster who plans to make Vegas his own. Assisting Lamb in keeping law and order are his two deputies: his diplomatic, even-keeled brother Jack and his charming but impulsive son, Dixon. Ambitious Assistant District Attorney Katherine O’Connell who grew up on the ranch next to the Lambs, also lends a hand in preserving justice. In Vegas, two powerful men – Lamb and Savino – are engaged in a fierce battle for control of the budding oasis, and for both of them, folding is not an option.
