It’s not all that often we get the chance to see a Kiwi actor or actress take the lead role in a big new American drama series.
Therefore it’s pretty exciting that Outrageous Fortune’s Antony Starr will hit American screens in Alan Ball’s new series Banshee on Friday night, with Kiwi viewers able to see him in action from Tuesday, January 15 on SoHo.
The series centres on ex-con/martial arts expert Lucas (Starr) who seeks his own form of justice while posing as a murdered sheriff in Banshee, a small Amish town in Pennsylvania.
Starr says that having True Blood creator Alan Ball involved in the Cinemax series was a major draw for him.
“He’s Hollywood royalty so as soon as you hear his name is attached to something it’s a no-brainer that you want to be involved. He’s been a fantastic support for the project.”
He also noted that the physicality of the role came as a surprise.
“I had no idea of what I was in for. I knew it was going to be very challenging physically but I didn’t realise that we would be used for the stunts as much as we were. I figured it would be like other things I’ve done where you tag out and the stunt guy comes in and does all the dangerous stuff.”
Banshee begins on Tuesday, January 15 at 8.30pm on SoHo.
