Packed to the Rafters ending after six seasons

PackedtotheRafters2Packed to the Rafters is coming to an end.

The Seven network in Australia has confirmed that the hugely popular drama series will wrap following its sixth season.

Kiwi-born actress Rebecca Gibney says the finale season has a sense of “finality” to it.

“The cast, writers and producers have always said that we wanted to keep Rafters as one of the most-watched shows on TV,” said Gibney.

“If we ever felt like we were losing too many cast members, we needed to end on a high.

“We can say that season six winds up an aspect of the Rafter family and there is a sense of finality to it. We’ve said our goodbyes.”

A two-hour finale is planned to see the show off, which will feature appearances from Jessica Marais (Rachel) and Hugh Sheridan (Ben).

Seven have left the door slightly ajar for a continuation sometime in the future but it would be unlikely that after a year or two the cast and crew would return to make more episodes.

A number of New Zealand actors and actresses have featured on the series throughout its six season run, including Gibney (Julie) , Erik Thompson (Dave), Zoe Cramond (Emma), Camille Keenan (Bree) and Hannah Marshall (Retta).
