Opportunity Fox for TVNZ

Whether Fox likes it or not, the next deal they have with a New Zealand broadcaster is likely to be of the pick and choose variety that Mediaworks wanted (unless Sky opens its chops and gobbles up the lot) now that TVNZ have declared their intent to pursue an output deal for themselves.

It didn’t take long for the vultures to descend but surprisingly, TVNZ have done so openly saying:

Fox is one of the three biggest producers of TV and feature film content in the US, so yes, we would be interested in taking a look at what might be available for our various channels and platforms.

I can imagine certain individuals at the mothership salivating over the prospects of driving another nail in the Mediaworks output deal coffin.

To be fair Mediaworks have supplied the nails themselves and have told their competitors where the nails should exactly go.

If they want spot buying from US studios than perhaps make sure your other two competitors aren’t going for the opposite.

“To be fair Mediaworks have supplied the nails themselves and have told their competitors where the nails should exactly go” … I was about to say the same thing; thanks to renovation shows like The Block and Grand Designs, Mediaworks have also shown the other networks exactly how to use the nails 😀

If this were to indeed happen, it would certainly help content on TVNZ, instead of endless reality/competition programming and disappointing Aussie dramas or another season of Nothing Trivial. If I were to place FOX programming on the schedule, I would put Homeland on TV One, Sons of Anarchy on TV2 and all the animated shows in an early evening lineup and weekends. This would finally remove repeats of Friends, Funniest Home Videos and Wipeout. Home and Away screens at 8.00pm and bob’s your uncle! A much improved lineup that would cripple Mediaworks.

To me, it’s just more shit dramas.

I really hope TVNZ do take on the Fox shows that would be Great 😀

Does this mean that TVNZ will launch a new Freeview channel as sugested by John Drinan a while ago? and this conten if it were to be snapped up by TVNZ would of been perfect for the now defunct TVNZ U!

I could see Sky buying the rights and launching FX.

I’m a little confused by this post, maybe someone can help me out:

“Whether Fox likes it or not, the next deal they have with a New Zealand
broadcaster is likely to be of the pick and choose variety that
Mediaworks wanted (unless Sky opens its chops and gobbles up the lot)
now that TVNZ have declared their intent to pursue an output deal for themselves.”

So is Regan saying TVNZ don’t have a chance at getting an output deal? Why is it likely their next deal will be pick and choose unless their only offer is with Mediaworks?

    • Regan Cunliffe

TVNZ will more than likely be taking the same position as Mediaworks in wanting to cherry pick the shows they want rather than having to take it all.

      • Jeseta

        Cheers for that.

Either way I hope we get those Fox shows back on NZ screens soon, though I’d like to see them continue on TV3 and FOUR where they have been.
