24: Live Another Day to premiere in May

American network Fox have announced a premiere date for 24: Live Another Day, the brand new 12-episode event series that carries on the story of Jack Bauer: the series will get under way with a two-hour premiere on May 6 (NZT). Fox also announced a list of new stars joining the show, including Yvonne Strahovski, who just finished a two-season spot on Dexter.

2014 Golden Globes most watched since 2004

You can credit Amy Poehler and Tina Fey for the success of the show: yesterdays Golden Globes were watched by a shade under 21 million US viewers, making it the most successful Golden Globes ceremony since 2004. The improvement isn’t dramatic compared to last year but the show is up 30% from 2012, when Ricky Gervais last hosted the ceremony.

Bill Paxton to guest star on Agents Of SHIELD

Aliens star Bill Paxton has signed on for a multi-episode arc on Agents Of SHIELD: he’ll play Agent John Garrett, a “rough-and-tumble former cohort of Agent Coulson with a little bit of attitude and cigar-smoking swagger”. In the comic books, Garrett is a half-cyborg. No mention of whether he will be on the show.

The Lonely Island enter development with Fox

Fox announced this morning that they’ve entered into a multi-year deal with The Lonely Island – comprised of Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccona and Golden Globe winner Andy Samberg – to create, what they call, an “alternative pipeline of next-generation comedy series”. What does that mean? The trio will be responsible for developing new comedy shows for digital platforms, and try to use their success there to bring new shows to broadcast television on the various Fox channels (Fox, FX, FXX). “These guys know what it takes to break through. whether online or on air,” said Fox chairman Kevin Reilly, “and they are the perfect partners to help us find the next generation of comedy hits.”

AMC’s revolutionary war drama Turn a “David vs Goliath tale”

The producers and cast of brand new AMC show Turn – about a spy operating during the American Revolution – have shared details about the show, which premieres on April 6. The show will focus on the Revolutionary War, which ran from 1775 to 1783. “What we’re told in school is that it was a very David vs. Goliath tale, that we fought the British for our freedom,” says Turn showrunner Craig Silverstein. “In reality it was a war fought between neighbors, it was fought house to house … there were many people living here who believed they were British subjects and this uprising was a criminal movement that needed to be put down and if the American cause were actually achieved it would lead to chaos. There had been nothing before that to suggest it would work. There were people divided within homes. It wasn’t like we were repelling an alien invasion force, it was more like a divorce.” The show follows a cabbage farmer, played by Jamie Bell, who agrees to spy on behalf of General George Washington, as told in the book Washington Spies: The Story Of America’s First Spy Ring.
