Feel for them really, I can imagine how Peter Williams must feel

It’s not that big of a deal, is it?

In this game it’s all about perception and how it looks isn’t flattering

They were reported as reading quotes from what people had said about them on the Internet. But no body had ever said it. When you are making up quotes to push a news story. Yes that’s a big deal.

I think it IS a big deal. I see it as lying! Also, why did they wait two days to own up to it. The two guys who made up the comments would have realised what the story was actually about by the time it was played on Tuesday and a comment could have been made later that day. Seems dodgy to me.

Has rather back-fired for TVNZ. Clumsily done (with questionable motives); hopefully they’ll learn to stick to news. It’s a election year – I want hard news, biting political interviews and less fluff please.

Do you guys think it was a genuine mistake? :S

Oh for goodness sake! Anyone would think they took over the newsroom and broadcast what they really thought of their bosses, the way it’s being treated!
I sniff a conspiracy … they want to get rid of these two, and this is the perfect way to do it. They tried to get rid of Peter once before, when he worked in sports, but he went to them with the suggestion he could read all the news bulletins he does now, which nobody wanted to do at the time, which they agreed to, so they kept him on.
It’s no coincidence that these two are slightly older.
TVNZ should be ashamed of themselves. Not only for turning this into a much bigger thing than it needs to be, but for treating their staff like shit. Especially since one of them has been with them for absolute ages.
This new head of news guy is a right prick.

      You’re on to something here.

Either they’re releasing this story in an attempt to divert our attention away from something else happening @ TVNZ; or there is a wider plan to disgrace / get rid of two senior employees.

I’d like to know why the blame lies solely with these two; Who issued the original brief, and was everyone privy to the same instructions? Was there not someone involved in putting that article together, who helped the news staff determine which feedback would be most suitable for the piece? Fact checking is a vital piece of any article, so why didn’t the reporter / producer for that piece not do their job?

So many questions … which we’ll never get the answers to.

If Peter and Dean were 20-something and blonde, this would be a big non-issue.

It’s a non-issue anyway, given that a lot of the comments were most probably posted by people with pretend accounts.
