Somewhat unfortunate timing

I’ve noticed a few new Jim Beam ads during The Paul Henry Show this last week featuring their new face, Mila Kunis.  The ad campaign kicked off recently as the Kentucky Bourbon brand aims to appeal more to their desired demographic.  Strangely enough though, news has surfaced this afternoon that Mila is now pregnant to her soon to be husband and former That 70’s Show co-star, Ashton Kutcher.

I’m not sure about you but that seems like very unfortunate timing to me.  Unless, of course, that is the point of the campaign – “Feed her bourbon and get her pregnant”

  • This guy.

I hope you realise these commercials aren’t live.

    • Regan Cunliffe

I am going to assume that Mila is at least 12 weeks pregnant. She became the face of Jim Bean about 4 weeks ago which would mean she more than likely knew she was pregnant then. So she’s gone into fronting a product that is 40% Alcohol while being in her first trimester.

Can you not hear the usual suspects on this?

      • Tricia R

From her interview with Marie Claire ” I was approached by Jim Beam about a year ago”. I’m picking she signed on and recorded the ads well before she knew she was pregnant.

No doubt. Ad campaigns usually are well planned out in advance. Pregnancies, not so much. Especially when they coincide with the launch with the promotion of an alcohol brand.

It’s unfortunate timing, but what can they do about it? Make her give back the money and find a new spokesperson?

          • Preston

Sooo, you just contradicted yourself. Of course she didn’t know she was pregnant when she signed up for this and probably wasn’t planning it/

          • Regan Cunliffe

She would have known prior to the campaign going live though…

          • Preston

…after the commercials have already been filmed and long after she signed a contract for them to be used. Still not seeing a point.

  • Jeseta

Yes and Scarlett Johanssen was recently seen visiting the dentist… How unfortunate for her Sodastream campaign…. seriously?

    • Regan Cunliffe

Because a tooth is the same as an unborn child?

      • Jeseta

It’s about as relevant to an advertising campaign yes, People are aware that Mila Kunis is just a hired face for Jim Beam. I don’t think anyone is naive enough to think she signed on to do the commercials because she is a big fan and regular drinker of Jim Beam.

        • Regan Cunliffe

Advertising is all about perception. Much of it plays to peoples naivety and their ability to subliminally connect the dots and ultimately make a purchasing decision. She’s there for the purpose of selling alcohol to men who find her attractive. A week after the campaign goes live, she’s pregnant. Let’s not forget the fact that Kentucky is one of what some might call a “red neck” state.

          • Tricia R

Are the men in the target audience really going to be aware of her pregnancy? I imagine the demographic that this appeals to aren’t that into keeping up with celebrity gossip. I could be wrong.

Being Russian originally you would think she likes the vodka more.

  • roger

Who buys their jim beam due to watching ads on tv anyway?

    • Regan Cunliffe

if it didn’t work, they wouldn’t be doing it

  • Ann Onymous

Well if you read The Daily Mail (Daily Fail) website or New Idea (No Idea) magazine, she’s been pregnant for the past two years, so I’ll believe it when the baby is born.
