TV3 marks 5 years as the home of comedy

comedy-festival-2014It seems like it was just yesterday that 7Days began bringing us the laughs on Friday nights. However, it’s been 5 years!

The 2014 NZ International Comedy Festival is the fifth year TV3 has sponsored the nationwide event that features the best local and international comedians, branding the channel the Home of Comedy for the duration of the Festival.

The partnership between TV3 and the NZ International Comedy Festival began in 2009, the same year the network launched hit panel show 7 Days.  Five years of laughter later, the Festival continues to go from strength to strength, and TV3 has established itself as the Home of Comedy, dominating Friday night viewing with record audiences for 7 Days and Jono and Ben at Ten (now in its third year).

MediaWorks TV Head of Marketing and Publicity Amanda Wilson says:  “There is an incredible synergy between the Festival and TV3, truly the Home of Comedy.  The amazing comedians taking part in the Festival, the lightning quick sell-out of 7 Days LIVE, and the upcoming launch of Jono and Ben on The Rock continues to prove the success of local comedy – something we’re thrilled to support over the next month and beyond.”

“As the partnership develops so has our innovation.  During this Festival one lucky viewer will win a comedy show at their home by watching the Old Mout Cider Comedy Gala, we’re launching a ‘best of comedy’ hub on 3NOW and we’re once again putting a call out for Kiwis to name their favourite local comedian in the Festival with the TV3 People’s Choice Award.  We encourage everyone to support what is going to be a superb Festival.”

On Anzac Day, the 150th episode of 7 Days will screen as a one-hour Festival special, and TV3 will broadcast the 2014 Old Mout Cider Comedy Gala on Monday 28 April.

Kylie Sealy, Managing Director, New Zealand Comedy Trust says:  “We’ve loved our partnership with TV3 over the last five Festivals. Over that time we’ve worked together to develop artists, showcase their work and make New Zealanders proud of the hilarious talent this country has to offer. There are a plethora of exciting performers coming through, and we encourage you to check out an up-and-coming comedian at this year’s Festival.”
