Whether you’re a channel surfer looking for something to watch or someone who leaves your TV on one channel for the entire evening, here are our thoughts on what we think might be worth checking out this evening.

Must Watch:

American Idol (Prime, 7:30pm)
To be honest, I haven’t been paying too much deliberate attention to American Idol this season but I’ve heard from number of people that this season has been one of the better ones in a while.  With the show down to the top 5, now is probably as good a time to check it out.

Da Vinci’s Demons (the BOX, 8:30pm)
I enjoyed the first season of Da Vinci’s Demons and tonight marks the series premiere for the second season on the Box.

The Paul Henry Show (TV3, 10:30pm)
I am finding The Paul Henry Show a relaxing way to round out my day with a bit of news, current affairs and entertainment.  If you haven’t given this show a view yet then maybe tonight’s the night you could.

Record for later:

Best Bits (TV One, 9:35pm)
Jesse Mulligan’s new hosting gig on TV2’s Best Bits should be essential viewing for us considering it’s a show about poking fun at some of the sillier moments from TV from the last week.

The Americans (SoHo, 7:30pm)
The cold war spy thriller sees Philip using his agent to help him gain access to an early precursor of the internet tonight while Nina faces the threat of a potential FBI polygraph exam.

Bodyshocker is an interesting show going by last weeks episode anyway 🙂

Best Bits is on One, and The Americans is an encore – new episodes premiere Tuesday at 8.30pm.

I like this post! More of these please!
Personally, I’m planning to check out ‘Art of the Architect’ on One @ 7:30pm, then ‘The Mentalist’ on Vibe @ 8:30pm; followed by ‘Best Bits’ as you’ve covered above.

I didn’t know that American Idol was still going. How is that possible?

    • Tania

On it’s last, or second-to-last, season apparently – a lot of the production staff have left, or are trying to leave, as they sense the time is up.

Thank god! It’s so old, it’s beginning to stink.

Best Bits is truly awful. Whoever thought it was a good idea to put these muppets on the panel needs a good kick up the pants. I’m sure Jesse is a nice guy but Te Radar did a far better job of hosting last year. As for the content – there have been heaps of funny things go on this week they could be discussing but seem to have missed.

I see what you mean … I think they’re trying too hard to be like 7 Days (especially with that guy with the curly hair who has lost sooooo much weight [good on him!] and whichever one it is from Fletch and Vaughan). But that Matt Heath guy didn’t laugh and smile as much last year so he must be enjoying this year more. I’m struggling to hear what the female comedian says – she speaks very quietly and by the time I turn it up she’s finished speaking and that raucous laughter comes on :-/ I miss Te Radar too – with Jessie, there seem to be a few awkward silences. Maybe Jono and Ben will pick up on that and pisstake Best Bits on their show?

Best Bits can be hit and miss. Sometimes they can be very good, sometimes jokes can fall flat.

Idol – probably best season yet; would be sad if it went. Feels relevant all of the sudden and the tracks being picked, many quite obscure, do reflect youth culture much more than previous seasons. Judges great combo too; Harry Connick Jr knows his stuff. Check out 17 year old Jena Irene…just incredible.

Agree with Ana..Best bits should be called Worst bits. Cringeworthy or maybe its because 7 days is so funny, this just doesn’t compare. And to pick a joke on a clip from some man form the documentary show Sunday who was talking about surviving bowel cancer. Very poor taste.
