"Cutting-Edge" graphics to fire up TV3's election night coverage

TV3’s Election Night coverage, hosted by John Campbell, will be enhanced by cutting-edge graphics that will showcase the night’s results.

Duncan Garner will use 3D virtual studio technology to illustrate the voting numbers with instant updates from polling booths around the country.

Garner believes that the graphics will bring a whole new level of immediacy and excitement to the coverage: “This is seriously ground-breaking. Think CNN, think ITN, now think TV3 on election night. It’s exciting and a real privilege to be able to present these 3D graphics on the night. We’ll also have our live touchscreen system too. MMP and the various calculations can be enormously complicated but this technology breaks it down and presents it like we have never seen before in NZ. The results, as they come in, are fed into these graphics live, for the public to see. It’s bloody exciting.”

MediaWorks TV Director of News and Current Affairs, Mark Jennings, says: “We always strive to bring an innovative approach to Election Night. We have been pioneers in using the country’s best comedians to bring a few lighter moments to our coverage and we were the first to use interactive touchscreen graphics. Now we are going a step further and viewers will get a glimpse of what the future holds when we roll with our new graphics system.”

Campbell and Garner will be joined in the Auckland studio by Paul Henry, Linda Clark, Bryce Edwards, Josie Pagani, Te Anga Nathan and Matthew Hooton. 3 News Political Editor, Patrick Gower and a team of journalists will report LIVE from 14 locations around New Zealand, gauging reaction and tracking developments in the electorates. The 7 Days comedians will take a satirical look at proceedings.

TV3 election broadcast on Saturday 20 September from 7pm will also be streamed LIVE at 3news.co.nz/decision14.

Josie Pagani is such a pain. She used to be President or something of Labour so only ever promotes what they do. And her voice grates.
