Be open with this Outrageous spinoff

james griffinApproach it with an open mind.

That’s the advice from Westside co-creator James Griffin, who says fans should expect a new but familiar beast when the show begins on TV3 tonight.

“It is in some ways, Outrageous Fortune, but in many ways it’s not.”

Headlined by David de Lautour and Antonia Prebble, the spinoff drama series will tell six stories from the life of super safecracker Ted West, and his fiery wife Rita.

Set against a sweeping landscape of real historic events and people during the 1970’s, Griffin said blending fact with fiction makes the show unique.

“Each episode is set against an actual event, like the Commonwealth Games of 1974, and the general election of 1975,” Griffin said.

“The most fun was playing with history, blending real things with our fictional West family, and also blending the world we created in Outrageous Fortune with the world of Westside.”

Griffin warns while there will be some familar yet younger faces on the show, West family matriarch Cheryl West will not be around – yet.

“As for the precedes of Cheryl, if this works we’ll eventually get to the time when Cheryl turns up, but it will take a few years.”’

Westside begins 8.30pm tonight on TV3.

Throng’s exclusive companion series ‘Inside Westside’ will uncover the links between what we know of the world of the Wests in Outrageous and what we learn about what happened with Ted back in the 70’s. It will be available on, directly after Westside airs.

What’s with running the credits for Westside in a tiny window of the next show (Rush)?

Are TV3 that scared that people will change the channel?

    • Kyle Wadsworth

      It’s the new trend =/

    • Aaron Impact

All channels do this and it is disrespectful to the cast and crew who work hard to make said shows.
