Not a great start to The Block, but could be worse.

    • epistaxis

under 200k pretty dismal…(but maybe pick up after a few more episodes..)

      • Shannon Ryan-Greenwood

I was a little annoyed with the block and the twist of having two couples in two houses was very odd. And not in an interesting way, I lost interest

        • Jay

Not because you no longer host it, right?

          • Shannon Ryan-Greenwood

No that’s Shannon Ryan the angry one who usually comments lol I’m the nicer one who actually watches Tele whereas she does not yet constantly comments on shows

          • Jay

But you have the same user name as Shannon Ryan the presenter (who recently married a Mr Greenwood).

          • Shannon Ryan-Greenwood

That’s correct lol and ur point being?

          • Shannon Ryan-Greenwood

Neither of the two peopl on here named Shannon Ryan or Shannon Ryan-Greenwood are actually her which is the point I am trying to make by using this name, as the other is simply defaming the name with her use of it as her comments don’t reflect the name of the actual person.

          • Jay

I don’t get why you would use her name then, unless either/both of you are huge fans of her. Just seems…I dunno…odd.

          • benpaul12

Or their names are the same. It does happen.

          • Nobody Famous

Jay, I highly doubt that the real Shannon Ryan would be commenting here on TV3 shows – especially considering whomever is using that name voiced their opinion right throughout The Block’s last season – even though she’s living in the States now (for the most part), I’m sure she wouldn’t be silly enough to burn her bridges for any potential work by slamming Mediaworks.

    • Mark

Couldn’t be much worse. They’ll be hugely disappointed with those numbers.

      • benpaul12

I don’t see how they could be surprised though. The only show which has rated okay in the reality sphere for TV3 recently is DWTS and to a lesser extent The Bachelor. Why? Because that format hasn’t been done to death.

I’d be surprised if they were surprised! The last season of The Block suffered some pretty poor ratings throughout didn’t it?

        • Guest

‘The Block’ needs a good rev-up, starting with the host. Mark Richardson grates on my nerves and his new sidekick Shelley has the personality of a used tea bag.

The contestants this year all seem dull, boring and stupid (for starters, WTF was that guy going on about, saying he liked the ‘design’ of NWA in the ’90s? He knows this is renovation, not fashion, right?); and the ‘mystery’ of what will happen to the two empty villas is … well, boring.

Maybe they will inject a bit of life into the show by bringing back faves like they promised all those months ago, but I doubt they’ll be that clever.

          • Shannon Ryan

They just need to put it out of its misery and cancel it.

  • Beak Van Der James

‘The Block’ down 140,000 on opening ep of S3 (340, 800). Opening eps of S1 got 389,800 and S2 got 384,800. I’m already looking for forward to that cume series total!

  • K

anyone else finding the Paul Henry show very dull without Hilary ? Sacha McNeil is a great newsreader but …

    • H.lua

Samantha Hayes should have filled in and put Sacha on newsworthy

      • K

Yes! Susie Nordqvist would have been ok too, she was quite good when she filled in on his show last yr

        • Shannon Ryan

Yes Susie is very pretty and charismatic, she would probably be better as a breakfast host. Sacha McNeil’s strengths are much more about conventional newsreading.

      • Guest

I feel so sorry for Sam on Newsworthy … she’s definitely propping that limp guy up … she’s so professional and likable but he’s just … well, he’s just there.

    • Guest

Nobody will match Hilary’s skill, experience and confidence. Plus, she worked with Paul way back when so knows him extremely well. Even if the others try to come out of their shells a bit, it’ll most likely backfire.

  • K

7 days of Sport wasn’t bad but thank goodness they have a new host each week … Casey Kapua was not very natural…

    • Guest

Oh my goodness she was dreadful!!! I don’t know why they can’t find someone charismatic to host … Martin Devlin would be a good start.

  • Karma

It’s probably just me, but it’s disappointing to see Stuff reporting the low ratings of The Block as news. They did the same for the first episode of Masterchef. I bet they don’t that with any TVNZ shows. Journalistic standards appear to have slipped so much that infotainment type gossip is now reported as news.

    • benpaul12

Bombs, flops etc. always seem to get the public going.

  • Shannon Ryan

It’s now clear for TV3 that not every reality format that has been successful in the past will do well now. While The Bachelor and DWTS performed nicely, Masterchef and The Block are failures, which will probably result in the OK-rated X Factor getting a third season. I don’t see TV3 having many other options, as their Friday comedies, genre-dramas, procedural-dramas and movies are all way down. They might be better off investing in trashy reality content like TOWIE and put Real Housewives on in primetime.

  • César

Is that number bad for Step Dave?

  • Rawn

Villa wars is so boring… Room reveals are pretty bland

    • Guest

I would NOT buy the villa that the sisters are renovating – yikes!
It’s not just the blandness of the room reveals though; the contestants (aside from Jeremy) are all boring and annoying, as are the judges and hosts. It might be time to put this show out of its misery if this is the best ‘talent’ they can find.
The only likable things about the show for me are Jeremy (who I think is a really clever young guy) and Martin, the Scottish builder (again, very clever).
