What should I do?

I have been approached by a foreign business wanting to advertise on Throng. This particular company offers services for accessing content restricted by geo-blocking.

Under normal circumstances, I’d be inclined to pass but considering none of the local TV networks are making any offers, what do you, my good readers, think I should do?

    I have adblock installed, so I don’t care 🙂

Go for it ! sure everyone would rather that than seeing the site close or something

if you cant afford to keep a website going without ads, why did you creat one? why dont you to approach TVNZ or TV3 tell them how many visits you get.

Or try and get lots of traffic via a site such as Stuff – like what the NZ Herald does for The Spinoff

      • Regan Cunliffe

We don’t have a problem with traffic.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying

I have adblock installed too – sorry, but I couldn’t visit this site without it as the ads were too much (although those prizel things to the right which I still see are annoying too). I know you’re a business so have to make money somehow, but they might be quite offputting to a number of people.

This said, if you could get the other company to pay enough to get rid of some of your other ads, I say go for it.

Can I also suggest that you get the people back who used to write cool recaps of shows? The short Shortland Street recaps were great, as were the ones for House Rules, Masterchef and The Block. They were the reason for me coming here in the first place.

I’ve started removing some of them and those prizel ones will be going at the end of the month.

I’d love to have more people contributing again. If anyone would like to recap some of those shows, I’m happy to entertain it.

Just Sent you a Twitter DM about this, was going to email you but didn’t realize that I dont have your email.

As this site seems to go after every TV network, I would be more opposed to Throng accepting their advertising than going with the geo blocking unlock company.

    • Regan Cunliffe

There is still a big difference between “going after a TV network” and wanting to inform viewers about what’s on/coming soon etc.

If it means the site gets better content then I couldn’t care less
