Hilary Barry's interview with Oprah Winfrey airs tonight on TV3

When Hilary Met Oprah sees Hilary Barry sit down for an exclusive chat with the legendary daytime talk-show queen, Oprah Winfrey.

The interview will air tonight on TV3 and also be simulcast on RadioLIVE.

Leading up to this very special television event, Barry has revealed what it was like to be face-to-face with arguably one of the most famous people in the world.

“It was a little bit terrifying to be honest, but the moment you meet Oprah you become consumed by her warmth and generosity of spirit. She is very much the person she is on screen – captivating and highly entertaining.”

The reason for Barry’s nerves, as she explains it, like millions around the world, she too has been an admirer of Winfrey’s for many, many years.

“It was daunting because Oprah is such a hero of mine,” she said. “Her style of broadcasting is one I’ve always admired plus she’s one of the most famous people on the planet, who wouldn’t be intimidated by that?”

So what can audiences expect from the once-in-a-lifetime interview?

“There’s a part when Oprah talks about the moment as a child when she knew her family was poor. She described a Christmas where her mother told the children there would be no gifts. What happened next was something that has shaped Oprah’s attitude to giving and will likely have a lot of people watching in tears.”

When Hilary Met Oprah, 7pm tonight on TV3.
