I’ve been blogging about television for more than a decade but it is time for me to move on to other projects.

I have some final pieces of analysis that I’ll be publishing over the next few days but as of today, there will be no more daily ratings published.

I’d like to thank the 1.4+ million people who have joined me on this particular journey. It’s been quite the ride.

If anyone is interested in taking over the site, please feel free to email me:

Farewell. Its a shame. Its actually been a worthwhile place to have discussions and understand viewpoints.
Ironic that you’ve resigned before those that you believe will resign.

  • toby_toby

Sad to see you go as this is one of my daily visits. All the best.

  • Simon Bennett

All the best for your new ventures, Regan.

  • PGTips

Sorry to see you go, this has been a daily stop for me for ages, all the best and I hope someone else takes the site over so it continues.

    • Robotrescuer

      Maybe John Drinnan?

  • H.M

Aw what? That’s sad to hear Regan I have been coming here for years, will not be the same without you. All the best!

P.s. Is that culminative audience the 1.4 just kidding I could not resist

    • Regan Cunliffe

Awesome! Yes it is, cumulative! 😀

  • Pike Meru

That’s a shame Regan. You’ve been cutting through the spin really well for the last few years; don’t always agree with you, but that’s no bad thing. I can vouch that you’ve irritated many a TV boss for years. Hope someone else takes on the mantle; NZTV needs an almighty kick up the arse if its going to survive the on line onslaught.

  • Dave

Really disappointed to hear that Regan! I check out the site a couple of times a day, and it’s a great source of both ratings breakdowns, along with local & international TV industry news.

  • Robyn Gallagher

Throng has been my go-to spot for fun discussion of NZ reality TV, going right back to the earlier incarnation as Idol Blog. Thanks for all the hard work, Regan!

    • Jay

Jeez, Idol Blog! That conjures up memories of Liz Shaw…shudder…

Sorry to hear that Regan, always found your site interesting. Are you closing the entire site down, or will historic articles remain?

  • Peter Griffin

Sad to see Throng go Regan – maybe the daily ratings stuff could be built as a feature into the Spinoff website which seems to be developing a good following?

    • Are you suggesting Regan becomes a corporate shill? He has more integrity than that Peter.

      • Jay

Did they annoy you, like Xero did?

        • Xero hasn’t annoyed me, I am a longstanding customer, I wouldn’t believe everything Matt Nippert writes…he is mostly wrong and on a personal vendetta…which it appears you are too given your comment.

As for Spin Off they acknowledge they are corporate shills and sell outs…they just like to call it native advertising.

          • Nimrod Elgar

Love the word shill. From shilliber; a carnival worker who pretends to be a member of the audience. I’m going to drop it in to a convo tonight along with petrichor; that’s a beauty too.

            Pot = Black

          • Jay

            Good call.

  • Guest

Oh no! I’ll miss all the insider goss!
How much would you want for the site for someone to take it on and run it themselves?

  • Drew

Wow can’t believe this is it!! Thanks Regan for providing us this platform to discuss all things TV!! Gonna miss this site!! I don’t know where I’m gonna go now!! There is no other blog with ratings info and none with 25-54 figures!!! Good luck with your next endeavors.

  • Aaron Impact

This is all a little sudden. Did something happen?

  • Ana Onymous

Personally I liked the site a couple of years ago the most, when there were recaps and a lot more original content than just the TV networks’ press releases. Anyone can sign up to AC Neilsen’s viewing numbers and analyse them but the magic in making a site visit worthy comes down to wit as well as facts and figures. When you stopped publishing recaps the site wasn’t as good.

“Anyone can sign up to AC Neilsen’s viewing numbers and analyse them” — how??

  • Alastair Thompson

Sad to hear it Regan Cunliffe, though I well understand the why. Would love to see a piece of analysis from you about where the online performance/programmatic advertising world has been headed the past few years and what that means for professional Kiwi bloggers.

  • Jake

What a shame to hear… I’ve been with you and Rachel right back from the idolblog days as a teenager! Will miss the site!
