Some random thoughts on TV lately
- Anyone notice Libby's hair on Shortland Street lately has been to die for? Amazing!
- Oliver = Joey 2.0 on Shortland Street, but Oliver is nowhere near as good as Joey. Oliver = medical professional who secretly experiments treatments on patients to aid his research and doesn't mind if they die. Joey = medical professional who secretly operated on patients to aid his skills and doesn't mind if they die. Both had dead ex-es.
Joey was better because: 1. we got to know (and like) him before realising he was secretly Mr. Evil. Some of us even felt sorry for him. 2. there was huge mystery and suspense.Read more
Has the Pacific Blue Happy Flying (Macarena) Ad got stuck in your head yet?
TV3 Under-performing.
I had to laugh today, I read a letter in Mr Telly - TV Guide, the letter asked why Medium, Law & Order and CSI Miami had been taken off air.
TV3 replied " These shows had been under-performing and low audience numbers precipitated the decision to take them off air"
BOLLOCKS!!!
We just don't want to watch adverts every five minutes!!! - So we all switched off!
Its as simple as that, the sooner TV stations realise that we (the Kiwi TV viewing public) don't want to watch ad after ad which totaly ruins the flow of a program, the better.
We have a choice, yes, we can switch off, we can buy a DVD, we can even record the program and watch it later and fast forward through the adverts. Wouldn't it be in the TV stations best interests to keep their viewers, rather than pander to the advertisers? Without viewers they are nothing! The internet is so good now we can watch programs easily and without adverts,

Last month Air New Zealand launched their TV ad campaign that featured employees wearing nothing but body paint to reinforce their position that their fares had nothing to hide. They've now taken things one step further.
Many people were excited at the prospect of boarding their aircraft and being greeted by air crew who only had their uniforms painted on. As it turns out, from Monday, June 29th, that dream comes one step closer to reality.
Any air traveler will know that prior to any taxing out to the runway, a safety demonstration is made to ensure everyone is briefed on what to do in an emergency. Rather than have the air hostess run through the procedures at the front of the plane, a new video has been shot that explains everything - with more naked and painted Air New Zealand staff.

Telecom has admitted that the TV ad featuring stuntwoman Zoe Bell being dropped into the ocean while strapped inside a shipping container is fake and the phone calls were never made.
"It's like in a movie, when you see actors being blown up, you know they're not really being blown up. Initially we intended to do the whole thing but we decided it was far too dangerous.
We really enjoyed the whole 'was she, wasn't she' debate and it's created a lot of buzz. At the end of the day the ad was to have an element of truth to it - which it does because the network does work in those locations - and it has to be entertaining.
We have made every effort to be as transparent as possible."
- Michelle Teague, Telecom's head of communications and brand.
