Dom Post Claims One News Sports Presenter Beat Partner.

Today’s Dom Post leads with the story ONENEWS Sports Presenter ‘Tony Veitch’ allegedly beat a former partner so badly she wound up in a Wheel-chair.

The paper says the incident happened at Veitch’s up-market St Heliers residence in late ’06, as the couples’ four year relationship came to an end.

An un-named source claims that when Dunne (who recently married Biz Consultant Morgan Powell) landed in a wheelchair, she told friends and colleagues she had ‘fallen on the stairs’.

The story’s writer ‘Bernadette Courtney’ claims Veitch paid-off Dunne-Powell somewhere to the tune of $100,000 to keep quiet, just prior to marrying Zoe Halford (of the Halford Shipping Empire) late last year.

Veitch has refused comment.

In a somewhat unorthodox move both of the Star’s employers RadioSport (whose parent company owns several New Zealand Media Outlets such as Newstalk ZB & The New Zealand Herald) and Government owned Television New Zealand (TVNZ) have chosen not to suspend Veitch pending an investigation.

This in stark contrast to the Network’s main competitor ‘Mediaworks’ who you’ll remember took swift action by Suspending their Sports Presenter ‘Clint Brown’ in 2006 when allegations surfaced of a drunken incident at a Taupo nightclub.

Should be interesting to see where this one goes.

The ‘Real’ Ron Burgundy Passes Away – Journalistic Legacy Lives On.

Sad news today that journeyman local news anchor Ron Hunter—who is thought to be the inspiration for Ron Burgundy in Anchorman—has passed away at the age of 70. “In his long career, Ron Hunter anchored top rated local news desks in New Orleans, Miami, Buffalo, Philadelphia, and Chicago.

Hunter brought a style of journalism now synonymous with the News on most of our country’s news networks (and indeed most western/commercialized networks). The Newscorps, Time Warners, Viacoms, Disneys and human interest Pandas/Polar Bears will forever be indebted to this man – as are we.

TVNZ Proves BBC Model Can Be Boring – Even when No One’s Watching.

The BBC-esque model is in full-swing over on the Platform of Death (Freeview).
Never more so than on TVNZ’s New News Missive ‘TVNZ7′.
The BBC’s objectives to Inform, Educate & Entertain are destined to govern the Channel.
So, with former Shorty St non-english speaking Actors like this Knox in place of seasoned journalists, and Programmes like ‘Alien Investigation’, or (for those with a strong stomach) ‘Afternoon Breakfast with Paul Henry’ one wonders, how can it fail?

Indeed, during prime time 3 of the 4 Freeview exclusive channels present Maori-only content.
Given less than 4% of the population speak Maori and only 100,000 Freeview boxes exist, it’d be conservative to assume a turnout of roughly, nobody per channel.

Regardless, Informing? No.
Educating? Well probably not.
Entertaining? What are you kidding me – I could watch this for hours.
There’s just something I have to do first

- Everything else in my life.
