Welcome back to House Rules. Tonight we find out the homeowner and judge reactions to the four-day renovations. There are definitely some apartments that seem better than others.

Candy and Ryan’s apartment:

Judges thoughts: They think it is colourful, modern and well designed. Joe likes the rug choice and Wendy thinks the bee wallpaper is perfect for the brief. Wendy thinks they have made smart choices with the chairs and table in the dining room. Joe loves the orange tiled splash back and the extra bench space that they gave them. Both judges love the bathroom. The judges think the bedroom fits the brief well. Wendy loves the colour choices in the room. She thinks this is their best work in the competition so far.

My thoughts: The lounge room looks awesome. I am amazing by the stunning change. The pops of colour are very effective, and the space looks a lot bigger.   I think the floating shelf in the dining room area is a bit random but the chairs and table are great for the space. While not a fan of orange, the splash back really works. The kitchen is really impressive overall.   The bathroom is great, with excellent utilities and a bright red feature wall. It makes great use of a tiny space. Candy and Ryan have stepped it up this week!

Welcome back.

We are down to five couples and we shall speak of Brooke and Grant no further.

The leader board has been wiped clean, and this week the teams will make over one whole unit in just FOUR days. That is a lot of work in four days. Then they get a 24-hour challenge to fix one room in their own house – in the highlights we see the hessian being ripped down!  Both these challenges are happening this week. Wow.

Welcome to the final renovation of House Rules.

This week, the renovation is Bomber and Mel’s house in Adelaide.  The house is very old and shambolic.  They don’t have much of a kitchen and some parts of the house don’t even have a floor.  I am a little skeptical as to whether this is their legit house or whether the rumours of people buying a budget house specifically for the show are true.  The house is 103 years old and it is a very large space.  There is an unfinished extension and some walls are only corrugated iron.  The mortgage is $400 000.

Bomber lets the teams know that they like to recycle, refurbish and reuse things in their home.  Mel reminds them to value the past and look for the old hidden treasures that may have a lot of special meaning.

Zones for the week:

  • Family room, toilet and Jordan’s (age 12) bedroom
  • Kitchen, dining room, Kaitlin’s (age 16) bedroom
  • Master bedroom, ensuite, walk in robe, entry
  • Lounge, laundry, Ethan’s (age 14) bedroom
  • Bathroom, linen closet, hallway, Abby’s (age 7) bedroom

Welcome to the fifth renovation of House Rules.

This week, the renovation is Maddi and Lloyd’s house in Townsville, North Queensland. The house is an old Queenslander style house and they have a mortgage of $372 000. The floor is on a slope, which puts the walls and doors out.

They are hoping the home will be turned into an entertainer’s delight. Their last words are to renovate to suit the temperature conditions.

Inside the house, the teams do some snooping and are able to solve the mystery of Maddi and Lloyd’s occupations. The living space in the house is very spacious and open, with high ceilings. Adam notices the sloped floors. That is going to be hard to fix. They are stoked to see the pool in the back yard, maybe that will help to cool them off throughout the week.

The tropical temperature is going to be a problem this week – its very hot and humid.
