Welcome to the fourth week of House Rules.

This week, the house being renovated is Brooke and Grant’s house in Tasmania. The house is a 2 and a ½ bedroom cottage for 9 people! The aim is to not only renovate the house, but also extend it, to increase the size to 5 bedrooms. The house currently has a mortgage of $250 000. That is the smallest mortgage by far, but really, what they are getting out of this competition is an amazing new home, even if they were to come last

7 children under 8 – that means that in a few years there will be 7 teenagers in their house – Lord have mercy!

Brooke and Grant’s parting words are to turn Grant’s house into a combined house for both families. Brooke says, “I hate carpet”, and also to consider the children, and that they aren’t little forever – so perhaps no racing car or Barbie doll themed rooms then?

Welcome back to the reveal of Adam and Lisa’s Melbourne home. My money is on a win for Bomber and Mel or Brooke and Grant (because they have kept their spaces cleaner and simpler). Some of the other designs are a bit garish.

Adam and Lisa’s House Rules are:

1. Create a modern showstopper

2. Deliver a wow statement in every room

3. Give us earthy tones and pops of pattern

4. Glam it up with mirrors and wallpaper

5. Make our bedroom a moody boudoir Continue reading »

Welcome to the third week of House Rules.

This week, the house being renovated is Adam and Lisa’s, from Perth. They have a 1960s weatherboard cottage affectionately known as the ‘old lady’ in the Melbourne suburbs. They have a mortgage of $546, 000. Melbourne prices are WOW WOW WOW. The house is definitely in need of a renovation, and in Lisa’s own words, is falling apart. They have to plunge the loo every time they use it. Russell calls it the worst house in the best street.

Adam and Lisa’s parting words are to keep the drum kit (Adam has been playing drums since he was 10). Luckily it is an electric drum kit so they wont have to worry about soundproofing.

As a reward for winning last week’s first renovation, Maddi and Lloyd get to choose their own zone. They also get to allocate everyone else’s zones. I think the hardest zone would be dining room, bathroom and deck, because they are spaced in three separate areas in the house.

Welcome back to the second reveal night of House Rules where we get to see the finished result of Carole and Russells renovation.

Two expert judges – architect Joe Snell and Home Beautiful editor Wendy Moore – will score the renovations out of 10 and then Carole and Russell who will have the final say, also score each room out of 10.

Carole and Russell’s House Rules are:

1. Style us industrial chic

2. Create a butler’s pantry with a barn door

3. Give us a stunning alfresco dining room

4. Vintage-luxe our bedroom

5. Shower our bathrooms in champagne and chocolate
