“MyBiz Expo launches in October in Auckland and is designed to give the country’s SMEs a platform to compare their current business service supplier and learn about new business tools for success,” says XPO Exhibitions Director Brent Spillane.

TVNZ has this morning announced that Tamati Coffey will be the new host of Saturday Breakfast.

Tamati will join Toni Street on the couch, replacing Rawdon Christie who has moved to hosting the weekday edition of the show. The new role on Saturday Breakfast adds to an already busy schedule for Tamati, as he will also be hosting the upcoming entertainment show New Zealand’s Got Talent, which screens on TV ONE later in the year, as well as continuing his role as weather presenter on the weekday edition of Breakfast four days a week.

“Tamati is a talented presenter, and his popularity with viewers is evident in the feedback we receive,” says Editor Daily Programmes John Gillespie. “He and Toni are both clever and charismatic, and so Tamati will be the perfect fit for Saturday Breakfast.” Continue reading »

The 10th annual V48HOURS Furious Filmmaking competition kicks into high gear this weekend, and official broadcast partner TVNZU will be there to catch all the drama, sweat and tears from this year’s contestants.

With 48 hours to write, shoot and edit a short film, this event is not for the faint-hearted. U’s daily live show, U live will be at the centre of the madness this weekend, starting from Friday night, with U live being broadcast at each of the launch venues across the country. Continue reading »

TVNZ will launch a ‘plus one’ channel on the frequency now occupied by TVNZ 7, from July 1 2012.

The new channel will be an exact duplicate of TV ONE, broadcast an hour later.

Changing viewer habits have seen time-shifted channels develop as an internationally-established method of meeting viewer demands for greater flexibility – especially with News and Current Affairs.  Long working hours, shift work and traffic problems have had an impact on the numbers able to watch the evening news in its traditional time slot, and there is now an identifiable global trend towards time-shifting by consumers. TV ONE’s daily news shows remained on top for the month of April, with all programmes winning against their respective counterparts.

TV ONE’s Breakfast audience was three times the size of TV3’s Firstline. Breakfast ended the month with a 36% share of the available audience aged 5+ at that time, ahead of 3 News: Firstline with 12%.

At 6pm, ONE News had double the viewers, with a 44% share of the available 5+ audience at that time, compared to 3 News which had 22%. On average, more than 655,000 New Zealanders in this demographic watched each edition of ONE News in April. Continue reading »

Corin Dann is to be TVNZ’s new political editor.

Corin is well-known to television audiences as the co-presenter of TVNZ’s Breakfast programme, and prior to that through his work as the network’s business presenter.

TVNZ Head of News and Current Affairs, Ross Dagan, says Corin was picked for the job because of his strong background in politics and economics and his experience in all facets of live television.

“His appointment will secure TVNZ’s strong performance in the political arena. This is an important job in any democratic society and Corin’s track record and professional skills will be an outstanding asset both to the company and to viewers.” Continue reading »

Chantelle O’Brien became the eighth contestant from the Top 16 to leave MasterChef New Zealand on Tuesday 17th April (7.30 pm – 8.30 pm) on TV ONE.

In tonight’s episode the Top Nine contestants went on a Hawkes Bay road trip and were given just 90 minutes to source and create a signature dish representing the essence of Hawkes Bay, using the core ingredient of spring lamb and other fresh local produce.

But in a twist, the contestants had to cook alfresco, on state-of-the-art Fisher and Paykel barbecues, at the stunning Elephant Hill Winery.

Dave McKinnon’s barbequed lamb with spring vegetables and Zee Tana’s crusted lamb loin with mushroom duxelle were named the standout dishes of the day. The pair were rewarded with a special dinner prepared by Black Barn Bistro’s executive chef Terry Lowe. Continue reading »

TVNZ is proud to announce a milestone shared by few other New Zealand programmes – the 25 year anniversary of Waka Huia and Tagata Pasifika, and the 20th anniversary of Marae Investigates.

Waka Huia was created in 1987 after the success of the Te Māori exhibition that went around the world. Originally a history programme, Waka Huia tells the stories that were not being passed on to the next generation. Continue reading »

Kevin Kenrick has been appointed Chief Executive of Television New Zealand.

Board Chairman, Sir John Anderson said today that Mr Kenrick will take up the position in the middle of May.

He said Mr Kenrick is a well known New Zealand business figure who has held a number of significant leadership roles in some of New Zealand’s largest companies, including Lion Nathan, Telecom New Zealand, and most recently, House of Travel. Continue reading »

TVNZ has reported a half year unaudited Net Profit after Tax of $19.2 million, an increase of $14.3 million on the prior year.  This increase reflects in part the impact of last financial year’s write down of TVNZ’s Hybrid investment.

TVNZ’s television advertising revenue grew to $168 million.  This represents a rise of 2.3% and puts TVNZ ahead of total television market growth of 1.6% for the same period. Continue reading »
