The most controversial programming change TV3 could make

Put Home and Away up against Shortland Street at 7pm.
Give John Campbell a Kiwi clone of Rove's show on Friday night complete with the 7 Days crew with regular slots.
Put The Simpsons on at 5:30pm.

I wouldn't be surprised if TVNZ make a bid for Home and Away.  It would make a huge dent in TV3's lead-in to their news.  H & A often outrates 3News in the younger demographics.

First I've heard of such an 'understanding'. In my experience, the networks do what they can to unseat a successful local show on a rival channel.

An example which comes to mind is TVNZ programming 'Designer Vagina' against Outrageous Fortune on TV3.

Never said it would happen Smiling

1. I think NZ shows should stand on their own two feet, not be kid-gloved. Does Shortland Street do so well at 7pm because there's no other "light" alternative on offer after a heavy hour of news?  Do viewers actually suffer because of this "understanding"?
2. If they have this understanding, does that mean they share their upcoming programming schedule ("We're screening Masterchef then and Go Girls there so play nicely and we'll do the same for you for Outrageous Fortune and NZ's Next Top Model?") or is the 7pm slot some special case?
3. Does that mean if you want to put up a good show against a Kiwi-made show it has to also be locally made?  (Seems contradictory.)

I can categorically say, this WILL NOT happen. Firstly TV3 and TVNZ have an understanding that they won't run heavyweight cheap imports against local content, because it hurts local production, and helps no one.

Secondly, Campbell's show is being changed, but only by adapting some of the successful elements of '@Seven'... concepts like the panel which discussed daily issues. This content is effective and most importantly cheap. Audsley is very happy with Campbell as it stands, and he sees potential to hang on to it. There are however very few compelling reasons to continue persevering with Sunrise. It still rates horribly, and even if they could slightly elevate their ratings, they are still squabbling with Breakfast over a tiny revenue pocket, whilst having to line the pockets of Flynn, Driver, McNeil, Rod and countless support staff.

It will be gone by April/May at the latest.

Ha, my sister would be angry if that happened. She likes both Home & Away and Shortland Street.

That would be one wild ride!
