A couple of the winners are predictable, which makes it boring. There would be an uproar if the same actors won oscars every year.

But it's the people that are voting.

"Old ways of news-gathering"? Like, people talking to people?

    Fair enough :)

While TV3 may have been a few minutes behind TV One with the verdict announcement, that's still 24 hours better than it often is in reverse.

Lost came in with 167,210.  Was sixth after the rerun of Freinds.

Ah well, I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree.

Although if we're playing guessing games, mine would be that 3 decided to run with two stories they knew One News couldn't match before running the Spybase story.

Lost must have tanked last night what did it get?

  • jeremy t said: If that's correct, it was a bad call because there was no sound with the pictures, and no reaction from the defendants. It needed to be first. My guess is that they werent ready at the beginning of the news because they couldnt get their satellite truck up and running.

I noticed that too, Lisa.  There was footage from inside the courtroom which One didn't have.

I wonder if 3News delayed their spybase story so they could quickly put together some images to go with Charlotte Tonkin's live cross? Television is all about the pictures after all.

I think they made the right decision to lead with Michael Morrah and the aftermath of the cyclone, particularly as the full scale of the devastation is only now just coming to light.

I loved the dogwash story! Certainly a lot more than the dog did.

  • Dave said:

The dog wash story was great, but should have been in the 'kicker' slot (ie. 6.58). Unfortunately TV3 has a really strange aversion to kickers during the week. One still regularly keeps up the "and finally" tradition through.

Interesting decisions tonight.  I can understand why TV3 decided to stay with their Fiji story as their top story.  You have to back your (expensive) decision to send a couple of people to Fiji.  Any other day, and 3 would be in quite a safe position.  Today, though, I think they should have gone with the Ploughshares verdict. It was brand new, they already new about it, the verdict was areal shock to the average viewer.

The other ting I noticed was that Michael Morah's story began and ended with him talking to the camera.  It had all the hallmarks and structure of a live cross.  It verges on being a little deceitful.  3News have established a readily-recognisable style for their live crosses - live introduction by reporter in the field, tape story, live concluded comments by the reporter.  Michael's story tonight had all those elements, but with-out being actually live.  Bit sneaky.

She might have won over some of her detractors tonight!

The Karyn that was on tonights episode, where was she last week?

3 News had the Waihopai story online about 10 minutes before TVNZ, actually.

Yup, I agree with the plane story on 3news. The beginning of the news made it sound like it was a lucky escape or something, not that the man involved had died. It was more of a case of unlucky circumstances than anything else.

Also just coming up to the sports on 3news and we are getting more fluff, the new dog wash in Japan, seems like it was a slowish newsday at TV3...

  • regan said:

I think it's better that both One and TV2 are separated.  You can combine the two figures if you want but displaying a combined figure would possibly upset those wanting to see the splits.

  • Matt Cohen said:

Regan & Rachel, how about merging TV1 & TV2 as TVNZ to give an overall market share or are you going by top share recorded (e.g 28/21/20/16%)

    What a joke.

The reason they didn't fire that shrimp Richard is because they want to exploit his relationship with Nicky and when the moron basically FIRED himself in the boardroom the producers pooped their collective pants. We all know these shows are tweaked to make compulsive viewing but when you really cook the books its laughable.

You always leave this show with questions about what happened because the editing is rather poor. What was this report the team did for Subway? Why were they allowed to incentivise after being told not to at the start? What moron thought telling Subway how to do their job was a good idea?

Why did the creators leave out all these answers?

I met Linda a few years back upon her return to Auckland. There's no doubt she's intelligent and driven. Combined with photogenic and vocal, she's the perfect contestant for this show. Who cares if she dated some pseudo sports stars or not, these shows need a bit of glamour as much as bitching & conniving. I can't imagine she'll win this apprenticeship, but in the meantime I'll enjoy her shenanigans as much as Caterine's or David's or Terry's (?).

As a piece of realtively shameless self-promotion, it's not quite up there with Lara Bingle, but this show does give these guys a shop-window for thier talents. Shame it also exposes their flaws so painfulyl...

Let's see what the High Court has to say.

  • LisaS said:

Would that be the sort of "good journalism" that just got a kicking from the BSA?

If there is still 10 contestants left, Maybe they will split the teams into 2 groups of 5?

I'm not quite sure why Nicky is still in Number 8.
