It was okay.

But you can't judge a TV show on 1 episode.

you guys hyped it up - you were right - i was surprised - took me a while to get my head around it - but wow - it kinda did everything we didn't expect. it was a thriller - didn't seem dumb - great actors eh! - i will follow

Incredibly well made. Just gorgeous to look at. Doesn't quite have the pace or intrigue of something like Lost, but why should it? I hope this does as well as it deserves to...

Great!! Well done to all involved. The girlfriend didn't think she could watch Craig from Shortland Street, but she's now saying he's not Craig anymore. Soapy??I'm not an expert (she is) but all stories have to slow down a bit so we can get to know the characters. I'd like to see more of the 20somethings in the cult. I hope the writers show us how they got to be convinced to join. Definitely tuning in next week.

This show is amazing. Really. We have had a few good shows here in NZ and a lot of average shows. This show is the cream of what our country has ever produced. The core of the story is based in real human family affairs, something that we all relate to. My head is still spinning. Amazing. Stunning. intelligent. Beautiful. Global. So very proud.

Wow. It's quite interesting to see that you've viewed my opinion as if I was grumpy or rude! @karl: I didn't compare it to a soap as I was watching it, the comparison came when the acting took that all-too-familiar soap-opera turn. Not everything is a soap opera. Did I say everything was? Smiling @Global: I most definitely agree with your views about the ground breaking plot behind this show. In fact, I'm kicking myself for forgetting to mention it as the positive of this show. And like I said before, I'm giving it another shot next week. You never know, I may be converted! Crappy pun intended.

I agree with you on a few things.... But really..... I have to say your view seems to lack global market insight. this show is a ground breaker. I could see this within the first 5 minutes. Stylistically the aesthetic is something that has never been seen in the australasia TV market and is something easily marketable to the USA, UK, Europe and Asia. International territories will eat this show up in a New York second. Im not sure how much time you have spent in the global arena of television sales and marketing, but i can tell you this show is something that we as the viewer have not ever seen down this side of the globe and if we have, it has been shot in NYC or Toronto. We should be proud and stop acting like the typical kiwi..... like crabs in a bucket.

i agree ! settle down sister - get over shortland street - this is the real thing ... there's more hanging in this than paris hilton's wardrobe ... renato was cool - i agree he'll shoot that edward nob right between the eye.

settle down crystal not everything has to be a soap opera - extend yourself - it might involve more than 15 seconds of attention and thought - it's a 9 out of 10 for me ... seems a bit suss writing a review half way through an episode. like reviewing a footy match at half time. bit unfair wouldn't you say? breathe! it raced ahead from half way i thought. stuff fell into place - i'm in! but at this point i'd rather be in two gardens!

After just the first half hour I had to leave. Here's why: 1. A lot of lines were lacking emphasis. For example, When Renato Bartolomei's character Michael Lewis asked, "What's going on here? Where is my son?" he sounded like he didn't really care much. If your son had been taken 3 YEARS ago by someone who had used YOUR signature to get him out, I would be a hell of a lot more passionate wouldn't you? Renato Bartolomei acts like he's still on a soap. You're not on Shortland St. anymore Dr. Valentine. 2. Michael Lewis suddenly starts locating the cult's location on a map using methods the everyday Kiwi does not usually use. Where did that come from?! 3. After trying to get in, Michael meets Gina Delaney. About 20 seconds after that we are thrust into a room full of other characters! Where did they come from? What the hell? 4. Slow motion is all well and good if used properly but after 25 seconds it just gets boring; and slow-mo + music + ambient sound = mega irritating. So yes, the pilot was a fail in my book. However, I will give next week another go. You can't get it right the first time but I expected a lot better. And I love TV, don't get me wrong. But New Zealand can't seem to get it right. Outrageous Fortune being the only exception.

If you missed the beginning:
  • Defence lawyer aka Dr Craig is shot by his client's victim's mother but he survives
  • Weird letters sent to people around the world with a coded message about where to find their loved ones in a secret cult
  • Freaky eye injection to someone in a lab
