Tea With Mussolini

VIBE - Friday 6 August, 8.30pm

In Florence, 1934, a group of expatriate ladies, known as "the Scorpioni" for their biting wit and critical ways, meet for tea nearly every day. The group is comprised mostly of English ladies, and includes an American archaeologist, as well as an orphan named Luca, whom they take care of. After Luca's mother passed away, his father abandoned him, and together the women act as the young boys' surrogate mothers. The women watch over him and teach him about art, love, passion for living and humanity, as they all weather the rise of fascism, the menacing political climate, and impending personal heartbreak.
