Commentary
ONE News and 3 News both reported on the flooding and slips in the East Coast. ONE News said SH5 had recently re-opened. 3 News said it was "not known when it will re-open". Checking NZTA's website, it was updated at 4:48pm to say the highway had re-opened.
3 News had up on their screens for the intro to their third story "Four deaths" but read out it was six deaths.
ONE News promoed the return of Q+A heavily in their Phil Goff story, complete with unecessary set and camera shots.
Both covered the death of the taxi driver in a similar manner.
Verdict
Despite not liking the promo for Q+A, 3 News made two mistakes in their lead stories tonight. The Rugby World Cup ticket warnings was pretty much a repeat of earlier stories that have been in the media - I guess repeated since things are about to go on sale. Didn't seem to be worthy of item #2 given the deaths, flooding and missing teen stories which followed.

I find it a bit gag-worthy how news reports now always have to say that "(the victim) was Mother / Father of (number)" Just to add some kind of gravity to their report.

I really like what you're doing by comparing the two channels each day. Any chance of adding a tally of verdicts for each channel so we can see how they're tracking?

Tv One always use Q&A for a story on sunday and i guess TV3 will be doing the same when they begin there similiar show. One thing im sick of seeing on One News is these antarctic stories whats the point.... they seem to be filmed some weeks ago.
