New Zealand jewellery mogul Michael Hill has hinted at plans for a reality show to be incorporated into a competition he is running.

Hill is using US reality TV queen Kim Kardashian to help promote his competition in Australia, US, Canada and here in NZ which offers couples the chance to win a 22.25-carat diamond ring.

Hill suggested to members of the New Zealand Shareholders Association at a recent awards dinner that filming Kardashian was also part of a deal that could follow through to a TV show.

However, when asked whether he was a fan of reality TV, Hill said that he and his wife were not.

He said his wife had attempted to watch Kardashian on her E! Channel reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians but lasted only 15 minutes before switching off.

TVNZ has planned to delay the return of weekly current affairs show Sunday next year.

The state broadcaster has decided to lay off the show until May next year, well past its usual February return.

Australian reality cooking series MasterChef Australia will take up the empty timeslot.

The move follows the news earlier in the year that experienced journalist and presenter Cameron Bennett was leaving the show.

TV3 is also making changes to its current affairs stock by cutting the budget for its weekly show 60 Minutes.

The change will see the budget slashed by 50 per cent as well as halt the plans for a refurbishment of its Eden Terrace studios.

TV3’s Roger Beaumont said the changes were inevitable.

“60 Minutes is, and will remain, a crucial part of the TV3 schedule, especially as the network evolves to a 25-54 target audience,” he said in a statement.

“However, like any prudent business, we are always reviewing costs and looking at options for managing the organisation as efficiently as possible.”

Momsen’s absence for “creative reasons”

Gossip Girl producers have confirmed that while Taylor Momsen’s part has been cut down on the drama series, the actress “isn’t going anywhere.” They have underlined that her absence is for “creative reasons” as opposed to issues with the actress herself who has been accused of being difficult to work with on set.

Commentary:

It’s heart-breaking watching TV today.  I didn’t think I’d feel so deeply moved by the news but I do.

I’m glad Peter Williams and Mike McRoberts did the news tonight.  Goes to show that we don’t need scripted emotional words when you see people fighting back the tears and getting choked up.  I think they were both ad-libbing as well – Mike McRoberts certainly seemed to.

Mark Jennings and John Campbell also did an interviews on 3 News – was that a first?

Verdict:

Thanks to ONE News and 3 News for both their bulletins tonight.  I only watched the first five stories on both so cannot comment on the rest but I thought the news was handled with respect, a lack of hurredness and no ads for quite a long time.

This is a sad day for New Zealand, the worst loss of life since Erebus.

Cricket legend and renowned ‘King Of Spin’ Shane Warne is set to bowl on to PRIME this month with his very own entertainment chat show Warnie.

This fun loving, retired spin-bowling sensation will bring his own brand of interview style to PRIME this Summer in five star-filled episodes boasting candid chats with some of the biggest names in entertainment.

He’ll enjoy relaxed one-on-ones with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, superstar Sting and Dannii Minogue. James Packer will speak exclusively to Warne, while chat show legend Michael Parkinson, Oscar-winning Hollywood star Russell Crowe and the incomparable Richie Benaud are just some of the guests who will join him in the studio in front of a live audience.

As well as interviews with some of the world’s biggest stars, viewers are in for a rare treat: specially created puppets will bring to life a selection of the best scenes from Billy Birmingham’s cricket comedy classic, The 12th Man.

The Today Show’s Alicia Gorey will also appear on Warnie to put famous current and ex-cricketers through “The Spin Cycle”, a rapid-fire Q&A session, as well as providing Ashes news reports.

The man with one of the most famous moustaches in cricket, legendary fast bowler and former Australian selector Merv Hughes, is Warne’s man on the street. Hughes will get to know the locals as he follows the five-match Ashes series around Australia.
