October 9th, 2007

Four or five episodes in and Ride ends this week according to TV Guide?

Surely there will be another series in '08.

Worst. Show. EVER

October 2nd, 2007

Bad acting, bad storylines - this show is nothing but rubbish with the flavour of discarded Shorty actors!
Really, really bad show. Is this a take on Outrageous?

Asians on TV ride with the devil

September 22nd, 2007

Sex, drugs, violence and street racing, Ride with the Devil has earned its 11pm Tuesday night screening time on TV2.

The local drama is now up to its third episode and it is well worth a look for all the above reasons but also because it makes a little piece of broadcasting history by being the first New Zealand television drama with an Asian playing the leading role.

Andy Wong plays Lin Jin, a young student from Beijing who gets caught up in local boy racer culture – a kind of Tokyo Drift in Auckland. He is supported by an experienced and able cast that includes Caleigh Cheung, Xavier Horan, and former Shortland Street regulars, Lynette Forday, Angela Bloomfield and Anna Hutchinson.

The NZ On Air Innovation Initiative that funded Ride With the Devil was created to foster new and innovative television. The series writer Murray Keane told the NZ Herald: “We weren’t trying to be culturally sensitive, we were trying to be culturally representative.”

September 11th, 2007

Oops, last week we were annoyed to have missed brand new kiwi boy racer drama Ride with The Devil which is on at 11pm on TV2 (why are NZ shows always on so late?), but judging by the trailer (to your right) it's definitely worth a watch!

And if you get hooked into the show, the characters all have Bebo pages where the storyline and relationships continue online. Lots more info about the show here »

Snapped - Amy's Blog

September 7th, 2007

snapped

Ok, so it's been like a really random week, my cousin Lin has just moved in with us from China. It's weird he's like the brother I never wanted. It would have been really sweet and all because we were able to stay outta each others way cos he'd go off to that Asian cram school and I'd go to my school.
Now that he's busted my cover, little bastard, things might get a bit tougher on the home front. Mum has no idea what I do, she still thinks I'm little miss the sun shines out my arse. I so hope Lin knows how to shut it.
He's being a real dick too, he crashed my car and he's trying it on with my best friend! Who the hell does he think he is!?! God I wish we could just ship him back to where he came from, he's so annoying!

Lin Jin's blog

Finally some action!!!

since arriving in the country, it's been really boring, just going to business college, staying home watching "Shortland Street" with my Aunty (which she's addicted to by the way, every night at 7 no one can disturb her until the program finishes) and just doing chores around the house. The other night when i bumped into Amy after playing minigolf with Ray and Aunty was an experience of a lifetime. i had never experienced anything as exciting as that, the burnouts that people do are just AMAZING, i want to learn to do them, but Amy is still mad at me for crashing her car and wouldn't teach me, she wouldn't even let me go near or mention her car at all. Something's not right tho, how can a school girl with no money or job afford a car like that? I've finally seen some action in Auckland, maybe New Zealand isn't so bad after all...

The Ride With The Devil interactive experience

September 5th, 2007

The Ride With The Devil production team have put together an interactive Television watching experience to turn passive, ordinary television viewing into a more interesting activity. They have put together character profiles of the main characters in Bebo so that viewers can add them as friends and interact with them, the characters would also interact with each other to provide additional information on the storyline and the relationship between these characters. Viewers can also read the blogs written by the characters to see the internal journeys and conflicts they go through. This is designed to be fun and interactive and hope to spark up controversial debates that arise from the story as the series goes on.

Ride With The Devil - Tuesday 4 September

September 1st, 2007

Ride With The Devil Tuesday 4 September, 11.00pm

A new, fast-paced drama looking at Auckland's late night boy racers, through the eyes of a young Chinese immigrant, starts this week on TV2.

Ride with the Devil (from the producers of TV2's The Market) is a high octane drama with a unique Asian slant. It is fast moving, fuelled by the realities of contemporary New Zealand, and features really cool cars. It is the story of Lin (Andy Wong), a student from Shanghai, and the friendship he develops with Kurt Williams (Xavier Horan), a testosterone-fuelled Kiwi guy from the suburbs of Auckland. The unlikely pair meet because of their shared love of performance cars, though Kurt's motives in befriending the wealthy young immigrant at first are purely exploitative. But when a late night street race goes horribly wrong and the cops are looking for culprits, these boy racers are in it together.
Despite the extraordinary cultural differences, the characters are brought together by their hugely competitive nature and their great love of cars. Kurt and Lin also have in common their complicated and fractious family relationships. Lin is led into the street-racing world by his cousin Amy who he has come to Auckland to live with - but Amy is reluctant to include him as he might blow her cover as her mother's 'good-girl'. Meanwhile Kurt must deal with his sister - a cop who is hell-bent on keeping him in line.
