Shortland Street

How would you kill off a Shortand Street character?

August 3rd, 2010

In light of the fact that Kieran Mitchell's cliff side demise was incredibly unoriginal and certainly not the first time a character had been terminated in that way we thought it would be fun to open up the discussion as to how you would kill off a Shortland Street character.

Be as creative as you like.  Tell us the name of the character and how you would end their tenure on the show.

Chris Warner finally has other children

August 3rd, 2010

How many years have we been waiting for this to happen?  After all those marriages, affairs, women, isn't it amazing that it's taken this long for the writers to introduce a child that Chris wasn't aware of?

Phoenix Rayner (Geordie Holibar) is the son of Alison Raynor whom Chris divorced in 1996 without knowing about the pregnancy.

The question now remains, how many other children has Chris unknowingly fathered over the years?

Ferndale cliffs claim fifth victim

August 3rd, 2010

From what I've been able to find, and assuming he has met his mortal demise, Kieran Mitchell is the fifth character on Shortland Street to fall off a cliff to their death.

In 2001, Eamon Dempsey was in a similar situation, finding himself dangling over the edge of a cliff with someone unable to conjure up the strength to pull him up.  Result: splat.

In 2006, the Jeffries girls lost their dad Ian after he ended his life by walking off a cliff.

In 2007, Hugo Carmont ended up over a cliff while clasping onto Mark Weston's hand as they both hung off a tree root.  Hugo let go and sacrificed himself so Mark could be saved.

And then in 2010, first it was the White Dragon followed very closely by Kieran who sacrificed himself so his brother could be saved.

Is Kieran dead?

August 2nd, 2010

So we know that Adam Rickitt is no longer in New Zealand and that his time as Kieran Mitchell on Shortland Street is over, but did his fall off the cliff actually kill him?  Will there be a body found or will he have mysteriously vanished?  I guess we'll find out tomorrow night.

Shortland Street storyline upsets Sophie Elliott's family

August 2nd, 2010

A Shortland Street storyline has left members of murdered University of Otago student Sophie Elliott’s family upset due to the similarities.

The TV2 show has surprised members of Elliot’s family recently by pursuing a storyline which features an intense, controlling and abusive relationship between a female student and a University lecturer.

Sophie Elliott’s cousin Linda Curtis has said that she was finally coming to terms with the loss of her cousin but that the Shortland Street storyline has brought it all back, forcing her and her family to “re-live” the nightmare.

Curtis has expressed her distaste for the storyline which has Sophie McKay (Kimberley Crossman) engaging in a relationship with her University lecturer Ash Fuller (Bryce Langston), saying it is “upsetting” that the writers of the show had used her cousin’s story, labelling it “poor taste”.
