Rove Presents: Hamish & Andy Re-Gifted

8:30pm - Friday, November 27 on TV 3
To wrap up another exciting season of Rove, Hamish and Andy are looking back on an adventurous year with an event hosted from the backyard of Hamish's grandparents, Moosey and Pop, in Rove Presents: Hamish & Andy Re-gifted, screening on Friday, November 27th 8:30pm on 3.
Now household names in both Australia and New Zealand, exactly how did Hamish Blake and Andy Lee become the biggest thing on Australian television since Mr. Rove McManus himself?
According to the comedians, they started young, allowing them to have nothing to lose, and certainly no careers to jeopardise if they weren't successful in their chosen path. "None of our friends were doing anything anyway," says Blake. "Still aren't," adds Lee.
Soon after their launch into the entertainment industry Hamish and Andy received confidence-inspiring success at the Australian Comedy Festival, after which they took over the Friday drive-time shift on RMIT's SYN-FM.
From there the duo started developing ideas for a television program. "I said to Ham, 'I've always wanted to do a television program with a mate of mine from school.' Ham said, 'Me, too'."
So with they can-do attitude and a couple of friends Hamish and Andy produced Radio Karate - six half-hour episodes of television shown on Australian community broadcaster Channel 31.
After taking home an "Antenna" for Radio Karate at the Australian Community Television Awards the pair were given the opportunity to produce The Hamish and Andy Show. Unfortunately for the comedians the short-lived series was a ratings disaster, with reviewers acknowledging their talent but describing the show as "poorly structured".
However there was a silver lining to the newly axed series, allowing them the opportunity to film the short mockumentary - The Greystone 2800. The mockumentary won the pair the Melbourne Comedy Festival Short Film competition and was spotted by Rove McManus.
"Rove ringing saying, 'I really like what you do. Do you want to come in and talk?' was just amazing," Lee remembers of the comedy legend showing interest in the duo.
The talk led to small spots on Rove and the rest, as they say, is history. Now in true very early Christmas spirit, Hamish and Andy are re-gifting some of their favourite adventures to share them in a one hour special, all from Hamish's grandparents' home.
Make sure not to miss Rove Presents: Hamish & Andy Re-gifted, screening on Friday, November 27th 8:30pm on 3.
