TV One to screen all Silver Ferns tests LIVE

August 6th, 2010

One of the most anticipated International Netball Series in years gets underway tomorrow with all of the Silver Ferns tests screening LIVE on TV ONE.

The Silver Ferns are scheduled to play Samoa, Jamaica and Australia over the next month in the lead up to October’s Commonwealth Games.

“We are anticipating a lot of interest in this International Series especially because the Silver Ferns, Australia and Jamaica are all such serious medal contenders so we’ve been able to extend the schedule to include three big games that will give viewers the chance to assess the form of our rivals in the lead-up to the Games”, says TVNZ’s General Manager of Sport Murray Needham.

TV ONE will be broadcasting all of the Silver Ferns games LIVE as well as delayed play of the series between the Australian Diamonds and the Jamaican Sunshine Girls.

ESPN talking up New Zealand after World Cup draw

June 16th, 2010

The commentary team at ESPN have been talking up the last minute draw by New Zealand against Slovakia at the World Cup today and have been praising the achievement of a small nation where Rugby is the number one game.

They have repeatedly re-screened the Vittek's Slovakian goal and lamented what they perceived as coming from an offside position.

To top things off, they screened an adorable photo of a kiwi chick while one of the commentators reminisced about coming to New Zealand and trying to find one on a night walk.

It certainly appears as though Winston Reid's final minute goal has won over more than just the hearts and support of his fellow countrymen.

TVNZ has $100,000 worth of camera gear stolen at FIFA World Cup

June 13th, 2010

ONE News cameraman Tony George has had his hotel room burgled in South Africa and over $100,000 worth of television recording, editing and transmission equipment stolen.

Tony George and reporter Donna-Marie Lever were staying at a FIFA sanctioned hotel in Rustenburg near the venue where the All Whites are due to play their first World Cup game.

The burglar/burglars jemmied the Wellington based cameraman’s hotel room door and cleaned out all of the gear inside including Tony’s clothes and passport.

Tony and Donna-Marie were having dinner in the hotel’s dining room at the time of the break-in.

The equipment they took included a TV camera, sound and lighting equipment, a laptop and a BGAN which is a state-of-the-art satellite transmission device.

“We’re just very grateful Tony and Donna-Marie are safe and well, it’s a very timely and sobering reminder of how vigilant all kiwis travelling to South Africa for the FIFA World Cup need to be”, said ONE News Editor, Paul Patrick.

“Donna-Marie will still be filing reports for ONE News due to the generosity of AP in South Africa, the news agency has helped them out with broadcast equipment, transmission capability, transport and money until we can organise replacements, they have been amazing and we’re very grateful”.

Tony & Donna-Marie are speaking to police at the moment.
