Beavis and Butthead returning?

Beavis and Butthead may be returning to the screen soon in the future with news the show’s creator Mike Judge is working on a 30-episode run of the cartoon. The series is said to still hold its “original ghetto-tech aesthetic” but feature modern music vids in order to provide better fodder for mocking.

Jaws star cast in Weeds

Richard Dreyfuss, star of 1970’s blockbuster Jaws, will guest star on Weeds in the upcoming sixth season. Weeds producers have announced the veteran actor will feature in at least four episodes of the drama series.

Skeet Ulrich joins Law & Order spin-off

Actor Skeet Ulrich has been cast in the upcoming legal spin-off Law & Order: Los Angeles as an ex-marine character called Rex Winters. Ulrich previously guest starred on fellow spin-off CSI: NY in a three-episode arc.

Seacrest developing dance series 

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest is working in tandem with E! in developing a new dance show for the entertainment network. Few details are known at this stage but the show will revolve around choreographers and dancers in Los Angeles and will feature Lady Gaga’s choreographer Laurie Ann Gibson.

Valderrama signs Fox deal

Former That 70s Show actor Wilmer Valderrama has signed an exclusive deal with 20th Century Fox which will see the actor star and executive produce at least one show for the studio.

Neighbours actress lands US role

A former Neighbours actress has landed a role in new American sitcom Outsourced. Pippa Black, who played Elle Robinson on the Aussie soap, will join the show as a character who has been recast.

Baldwin to depart 30 Rock next year

30 Rock actor Alec Baldwin has said he will leave the comedy series when his contract expires next year. The actor announced he will move on in order to live a “normal life” outside of acting.

Lost actor joins Law & Order

Former Lost actor Henry Ian Cusick will make an appearance on crime procedural Law & Order: SVU, with the actor signing on for a multi-episode arc. Cusick, who played Desmond Hume on Lost, will feature in at least two episodes.

Possible names for Cougar Town

The team behind Cougar Town are reportedly testing new names for the comedy series. Some of the names bandied around include: Friends and Family, The End of the Street, The Neighbourhood, The Cul De Sac Neighbourhood and Jules Neighbourhooding.

Rove close to US TV slot

Australian comedian Rove McManus is close to seizing a spot on daytime television in the US with CBS developing a show for him. Rove has filmed a pilot episode of the talk show with a working title Say It Now.

Biggs sitcom picked up

Jason Biggs is featuring in a new sitcom picked up by an American network. The ex-American Pie actor headlines the new series entitled Mad Love which follows a groups of young New Yorkers searching for love.

More cast in Criminal Minds spin-off

Actress and comedian Janeane Garofalo is joining the new Criminal Minds spin-off alongside Forest Whitaker. The ex-24 actress has also appeared on Saturday Night Live and The West Wing.

Doctor Who at Glastonbury

Doctor Who himself joined a band on stage at Glastonbury in the UK for a performance of the TV show’s theme. Actor Matt Smith appeared during electronic duo Orbital’s performance of the track at the festival running currently.

30 Rock to Curb

30 Rock actor Cheyenne Jackson will join the cast of Curb Your Enthusiasm in a recurring role next season. The 34-year-old will begin work on the ab-libbed comedy series shortly.

More guest stars for Entourage

Christina Aguilera and Eminem are among guest stars who have signed on to appear in the finale episode of Entourage later this year. Aguilera will perform on the show, while Eminem will have some sort of beef with Adrian Grenier’s Vince Chase.

Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy has confirmed there will not be any Glee movies in the foreseeable future. With rumours circling the show regarding a big screen debut with news that the cast members have movie clauses in their contracts, Murphy has come out saying that no plans are being made.

New Top Gear featuring less “tomfoolery”

James May has said the upcoming season of Top Gear will have less “tomfoolery”. He says audiences will see a subtle change in the way the show presents itself as the cast and the BBC don’t want to dumb down the show too much.

Glee co-creator honoured

Glee co-creator Ian Brennan is to receive the award for Comedy Writer of the Year at the upcoming Just For Laughs Festival. Aziz Ansari will pick up the Breakout Comedy Star award at the Montreal ceremony as well.

NCIS signs McGee

NCIS has locked in its final series regular after prolonged contract discussions, with Sean Murray inking a new deal. The actor who plays Timothy McGee will be present for the eighth season of the drama with all other series regulars signing deals in the past few months for the upcoming season.

Morissette to return to Weeds

A familiar face will appear on Weeds next season with Alanis Morissette returning to the drama for two episodes. The singer will reprise her role as a doctor on the show.

North Korea broadcast first live match

In a first for North Korea, their state broadcaster aired the country’s 0-7 loss to Portugal in the FIFA World Cup which is believed to be the first Korean away game broadcast live on state television. The commentator ended the broadcast with a simple statement: “The Portuguese won the game and now have four points, we are ending our live broadcast now.”

Damon planning 30 Rock return

Matt Damon is reportedly planning a return to the set of 30 Rock in the future after making an appearance in the recent season finale in the US. The actor played a character called Carol, the man of Liz’s (Tina Fey) dreams.

Doctor Who auctions

A number of major props from Doctor Who are going under the hammer next week including the Tardis from previous seasons. The item, used in 2005, is expected to fetch up to NZ$25,000 along with an original Dalek dating back to 1964 estimated at $NZ7000.

Entourage confirms guests

Entourage has confirmed Lenny Kravitz and P Diddy will make guest appearance sin the upcoming season of the show. Kravitz will play himself as a client of Ari’s while Diddy will join Mark Walhberg in one of his token golf course appearances.

CSI: Miami drops cast member

CSI: Miami have cut cast member Eddie Cibrian (Cardoza) for the next season of the show. The actor only recently joined the cast of the crime procedural after an original member left, but now the producers have decided to revert back to focussing on the remaining original cast.

New Hollywood stars

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has announced which television celebrities will be receiving stars on the Walk of Fame for 2011. 30 Rock’s Tina Fey heads the list, along with Idol creator Simon Fuller, Neil Patrick Harris, John Langley, Ed O’Neill, John Wells and Oprah Winfrey.

Vuvuzela-free games screened

Several international networks have screened vuvuzela-free games from the FIFA World Cup after receiving so many complaints from the viewers. German and French networks have led the way with the BBC in the UK also planning to filter out the drone for England’s next match against Algeria.

Eric Roberts joining soap

Eric Roberts is making a return to the world of soaps, with the actor confirming he is set for a role on The Young and the Restless. Roberts will play an attorney representing a familiar cast member on the soap, debuting in July.

Tommy Lee for Californication

Rocker Tommy Lee will make a guest appearance on the upcoming season of Californication. Lee will appear alongside David Duchovny in the drama series which has seen several celebrities make small appearances over the past few seasons.

The Office promotes Gabe

Zach Woods has been promoted to a series regular in the next season of The Office in the US. Woods plays Gabe Lewis in the comedy which is set to lose star Steve Carrell after the seventh season.

Another new signing for Dexter

Dexter has announced yet another cast addition with April Lee Hernandez set to join the drama in the new season. The ex-ER actress will play a new police officer alongside big-name signing Julia Stiles.

Tina Fey honoured

Comedian and 30 Rock star Tiny Fey has been selected to receive the Mark Twain prize for American Humour. Fey, whose impressions of Sarah Palin were a worldwide hit on Saturday Night Live, has been praised for earning “legions of fans for her quick, unapologetic wit and social commentary.” In response, Fey says she is “truly thrilled” to receive the award and assumed “Betty White was disqualified for steroid use.”

Ghost Whisperer to be saved?

Recently axed Ghost Whisperer may be salvaged from the scrap heap by American network ABC says series regular Jamie Kennedy. Earlier in the month, CBS called and end to the series but rival network ABC has shown interest in reviving it with Kennedy saying “They are talking about it, so that’s cool,” he said. “We haven’t exactly gone into the light, we haven’t crossed over, but we’ve got some life.”

Madonna for American Idol?

Pop star Madonna is reportedly being lined up to replace Simon Cowell on the next season of American Idol. The 51-year-old is at the top of the wish-list for execs with a source saying “Everyone agrees Madge would be great and they want her as a full-time judge. But if that fails they’d at least like her as a mentor.”

MasterChef favouritism

MasterChef Australia is being forced to defend itself over allegations of favouritism. The competition has been dubbed a ‘one-horse race’ after the last four contestants all tipped one chef to win, leading many to say the show’s judges Matt Preston, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan are bias towards certain contestants. Channel Nine has hit back, saying “They [the contestants] all make progress based on their cooking ability.”

Paula Abdul on Idol finale?

The latest news from American Idol suggests ex-judge Paula Abdul is set to make an appearance on the show’s finale. The highly anticipated three-hour grand final between Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox is to be attended by the likes of Christina Aguilera and Janet Jackson as well as a number of mystery guests.

New Glee cast member

Glee will reportedly boast a new major cast member next season with news that Philippines pop-star Charice Pempengco is set to join the celebrated show. The 18-year-old singer, who rose to fame through Youtube, recently became the first Asian to break into the Top 10 of the Billboard album chart.

Sesame Street revival

Children’s classic Sesame Street is reporting a 60 percent increase in viewership in the US. The show, which has run for more than four decades, is still managing to rate highly despite the onset of 24-hour children’s entertainment channels and is boasting its highest audiences since 2007.
