Al Murray’s German Adventure

LIVING CHANNEL – Wednesdays from 20 July, 10pm

Join Al Murray as he embarks on a journey to discover the real Germany. In a breathtaking odyssey through one of the country’s coldest winters Al puts aside classic German stereotypes and instead unearths two centuries of stunning arts and culture which, undoubtedly, have profoundly influenced the Britain we know today. From Bach to Bauhaus and the Brothers Grimm, Al explores the history, the arts, the popular culture and the natural beauty of the much maligned country. Like Basil Fawlty he purposely avoids all mention of the war and instead embarks on an exhaustive tour, from Heiligendemm in the North to Munich in the South, to reveal Germany’s 18th and 19th century Golden Age: an age of fairy tales, poetic writers, radical thinkers, avant-garde theatre, breathtaking architecture and the world’s first sea resort, from which British culture has begged, borrowed and stolen.
