9:30pm – Monday, November 5 on FOUR

This week’s American Horror Story’s penultimate season one episode sees Vivien (Connie Britton) giving birth to the maybe-Antichrist. American Horror Story continues on Monday, November 5 th at 9:30pm on FOUR. Britton, who before the series launched explained that she took on the role because it was “the polar opposite” of her part in Friday Night Lights, recently admitted that she is not a big fan of horror.

“But I like the [American Horror Story] pilot,” she said. “I just thought it was beautifully wrought.”

“There are parts of it I’m not in, obviously, that when I watch it’s like, ‘Oh my God, this is horrible’. But I do think that it’s done with such an artistry that that’s what I really love about it. For me, it transcends your typical slasher movie.”

Britton confessed that she is expecting a mixed reaction to this week’s episode, which will see Vivien giving birth in a house full of would-be baby-snatchers, both living and dead. “I think that this is something that’s either going to appeal or not appeal to people,” she said.

“I just have to say for me, not being a horror fan, I like the artistry of it. I like the character aspect of it a lot. But if I were just a regular person, not in it, I don’t know how I would feel about that. I don’t know if I’d just be totally freaked out by it.”

What exactly does she mean? Find out when American Horror Story screens on Monday, November 5 th at 9:30pm on FOUR.

9:30pm – Monday, October 1 on FOUR

This week’s unmissable American Horror Story sees Modern Family Emmy-winner Eric Stonestreet guest staring as Derek, who turns to Ben (Dylan McDermott) for help overcoming his irrational fear of childhood ghost stories. American Horror Story screens on Monday, October 1 st at 9:30pm on FOUR. Stonestreet is best know to fans as cuddly and lovable Cameron Tucker on 3′s Modern Family, but this week he takes a very dark turn, portraying one of Ben’s patients, who is terrified by urban legends.

Explaining how the guest role came about, American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy says: “We’ve had a couple cases where we’ve written things for people and then gone after them. Luckily in every case they’ve said yes. And this was the case where we wrote the role for Eric.”

“I’ve always loved Eric when he’s dramatic,” Murphy continues. “So I sent him the script and he said, ‘Why the hell did you think of me for this part?’”

Discussing the episode, titled “Piggy, Piggy”, Murphy doesn’t give much away, simply saying: “I think he’s so great. I love what the story is about. I like the idea that you attract fear to you.”

Heroes star Zachary Quinto is making his highly-anticipated return to television when he guest stars in this week’s part one of a two-part American Horror Story Halloween instalment, screening on Monday, September 17 th at 9:30pm on FOUR. Zachary Quinto plays Chad, one of the former owners of the haunted Los Angeles house that the Harmon family – Ben (Dylan McDermott), Vivien (Connie Britton) and their daughter Violet (Taissa Farmiga) – have moved into.

“I’m doing a bunch of stuff with Zachary Quinto that is just great,” series star Connie Britton explains. “He’s playing such a fun character on this.”

“We’re just having such a good time. That’s the great irony – we’re doing this scene that is so dark, and yet there is really so much fun in shooting it,” the actress continues.

“That’s one thing about anything that Ryan [series co-creator Ryan Murphy] does, there is always going to be a little bit of the tongue-in-cheek, no matter what.”

Asked if it it’s true that Quinto’s Chad is dead, Britton says, “Yes. But it’s a little-known fact that on Halloween, dead people can walk the Earth. By the way, we live in a house where the ghosts are very much alive.”

9:30pm – Monday, August 27 on FOUR

Evoking the moody, atmospheric vibe of horror films like “Rosemary’s Baby”, “The Shining”, “The Amityville Horror” and “The Exorcist”, FOUR’s brand new series American Horror Story premieres on Monday, August 27 th at 9:30pm on FOUR. Created by Ryan Murphy (Glee, Nip/Tuck), American Horror Story centers on the fractured Harmon family – guilt-plagued psychiatrist Ben (Dylan McDermott), depression-stricken Vivien (Connie Britton) and self-abusive daughter Violet (Taissa Farmiga) – who try to leave the hurts and tragedies of their past behind and make a fresh start in Los Angeles, only to find that their new home seems to be a magnet for death, disaster and freakish characters determined to further ruin their family.

“I like the fact that the show is very sort of in your face and is also very emotional,” Ryan Murphy explains. “It is a house of horrors.”

“Also, the show examines other horrors in society, not just the horrors that happen in this house.” Finding fresh ways to tap certain enduring, iconic and even too-familiar horror traditions and marry familiar horrors to new psycho-sexual contexts has been a treat for Murphy.

“When you put them through a prism of sexuality and emotionality they become more interesting,” the creator explains. “I love horror movies, but I don’t like bloody horror movies, so there’s not a lot of blood in this thing. It’s never going to be a blood bath because I always felt that it’s interesting to write a horror show for women, in a weird way. Not that that’s the only people that it will appeal to, but my mother doesn’t want to see blood and guts. But she does like scary movies that aren’t so in your face. That’s what we’re aiming for.”
