This series follows the work of non-profit organisation, the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (HSPCA). These animal guardians dedicate their lives to fighting against animal cruelty. They answer 8 000 calls a year and rescue up to 40 000 animals in distress, including everything from cattle and horses to lions and tigers.

This season, HSPCA chief Investigator Jim Boller and his team are put in charge of moving four black bears from a roadside zoo to the SPCA shelter and battle through thick mud to rescue some ostriches and a wild boar abandoned without food.

This season, HSPCA undercover officers infiltrate one of the nation’s largest illegal dog-fighting rings, rescue dozens of sick cats and dogs from the home of a suspected hoarder and fight to win custody of a rescued German Shepherd found with a tumour hanging from his neck, in court.
