Animal Emergency is the inspiring series which showcases the love, care and heartbreaking emotion in one of the world’s largest animal hospitals, Lort Smith Animal Hospital.

In episode four we meet Coco the Labrador who has eaten his way to trouble; Bella the cat who’s been given a possibly lethal dose of dog flea treatment; a lamb found wandering around city streets; and an unexpected result when a moulting goose is brought into the hospital.

With more than 100,000 unwanted, homeless and injured animals to care for each year, the Lort Smith Animal Hospital in Melbourne allows this series unprecedented access to every facet of its organisation which cares for animals around the clock. In episode three we meet Blind Freddie – a stray Maltese terrier, who is totally blind, but looking for a loving family; Bronson the Rottweiler is on the verge of death after eating snail bait; and we discover the trials of guinea pig ownership when a much-loved family pet arrives with a mysterious illness.

Kelly is living every pet owner’s nightmare. She has accidentally run over Charlie, the family cat in her own driveway. Guilt ridden, she rushes the critically injured feline from her local vet into emergency care at the Lort Smith hospital. As she prays for the cat’s survival, the vet teams wonder if Charlie has in fact used up every one of her nine lives.

A debilitating disease forces Deacon the 14 year old Maltese Shitsu Bisson into intensive care. Deakin’s medication has lapsed and the dog’s condition is quickly spiralling downwards. As his vital organs begin to fail, hospital vets desperately try to save him.

A zoology student studying penguins discovers more about one particular bird than she could have ever thought possible. The penguin seems to be suffering epileptic fits but it’s up to Wildlife Vet Sasha Herbert to determine what’s really going on.

It’s all in a day’s work for the staff at Lort Smith Animal Hospital.

In episode one, fearless family dog Madison the Akita comes face to face with a deadly tiger snake in her own backyard. But Madison comes off the runner-up in the fight between her and the snake, will her family have to consider putting down their faithful friend.

Mum the cat needs a lifesaving emergency caesarean to save her litter but when they appear the newborns are unable to breathe. The Lort Smith nursing team swing into action to try and save these tiny lives.
A routine check up for Johnny the crocodile turns out to be anything but routine. The croc keeps everyone on their toes as vet Sasha Herbert attempts to take blood from the thrashing reptile.
