Summer Wine runs dry

The Last of the Summer Wine, believed to be the longest running TV sitcom in history, will finally end after 31 seasons. The BBC show has run for 37 years but will end after its 31st season this year says BBC1 controller Jay Hunt. Unfortunately, many of the original cast will not be around to celebrate the show’s send-off, as several have since passed away.

CSI loses Vassey

CSI will lose one of its star lab staff with news that Liz Vassey is leaving the series after her contract was not renewed. Vassey, who plays Wendy on the show, will leave at the end of the current season. In related news, Laurence Fishburne’s CSI contract has been extended through the 2010-11 season.

Christian character for Glee

A Christian character is set to be introduced to the cast of hit series Glee, says the show’s creator Ryan Murphy. Murphy has said: “We’ve taken a couple jabs at the right wing this year, so what I want to do with this character is have someone who Christian kids and parents can recognise and say, ‘Oh, look—I’m represented there, too!’ If we’re trying to form a world of inclusiveness, we’ve got to include that point of view as well.”

Patrick Stewart knighted

British actor Patrick Stewart has been knighted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace yesterday. The 69-year-old Star Trek actor was recognised for his career which has spanned over five decades on the big and small screens. Supposedly the Queen herself is a fan of Stewart’s work.

Charlie Sheen to do time

Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen is reportedly set to serve time in jail for a misdemeanour offense. The sitcom actor is expected to plead guilty to the charge and will most likely spend a paltry 30 days behind bars.  The jail stay will affect Two and a Half Men shooting as the time will be served during the sitcom’s hiatus.

The Hoff heading back to soap

David Hasselhoff has signed on to reprise his role on daytime soap The Young and the Restless. The 57-year-old actor, best known for his beachside gallivanting on Baywatch, will return to the soap as Dr William ‘Snapper’ Foster for a week in the US summer. Hasselhoff will be joined by his daughter Taylor Ann who is making her acting debut on the show.

Jersey Shore preview

Fans of MTV series Jersey Shore should be watching the upcoming 2010 MTV Movie Awards as the show’s cast are tipped to be presenting an exclusive preview of the second season of the new reality series during the red carpet coverage at the event.

Sanjeev returns

Sanjeev Bhaskar, best known for his role in English series The Kumars at Number 42, is set to return to screens in a new BBC drama. The actor will play a Dr Prem Patel in the series entitled The Indian Doctor which focuses on his character in 1960s Wales.

Christian group slams JC

Christian advocacy group Citizens Against Religious Bigotry are furious with the new Comedy Central project JC which features Jesus as an ordinary guy trying to make it in New York. The group has slammed the network for attacking Christianity in the new sitcom, saying they will boycott the series and any companies who advertise during it.
