After his father Ethan is injured in a fall, Nucky uses the opportunity to refurbish his childhood home. During a visit to an army hospital, Jimmy befriends a disfigured vet named Richard Harrow, whose sharp eye may prove invaluable. Angela finds companionship in Jimmy’s absence and Luciano and a friend cut a deal with the D’Alessio brothers. On a double-date with new friend Annabelle and her beaux, Margaret tries to get Nucky to open up about some painful childhood memories; on a tip from Capone, Jimmy eyes payback against one of Sheridan’s thugs.

After the brazen robbery of one of his Ward Bosses, Nucky turns up the heat on Lucky Luciano. An emboldened Margaret stands up to Lucy at the dress shop, and then accepts an offer from Nucky to change her circumstances. In Chicago, Al Capone’s frustration over family issues spills over into his relationship with Jimmy, who scores points with Johnny Torrio for a bold power play involving mob heavy Charlie Sheridan and the neighbourhood of Greektown.

On the day of the annual St. Patrick’s Eve dinner, Nucky deals with his jealous brother’s oratory ambitions, as well as a group of disenchanted “Leprechauns.” Feeling ignored by Nucky, a frustrated Margaret feeds Van Alden information regarding the whereabouts of a garage filled with barrels of beer. In New York, Arnold Rothstein worries about his involvement in the fixed World Series, while in Chicago, Jimmy copes with the aftermath of a vicious attack orchestrated by Torrio rival Charlie Sheridan.

Eli and Chalky go to extremes to interrogate a KKK member; Lucky Luciano sets his sights on Jimmy’s “wife” and Margaret impresses at Nucky’s lavish birthday party, while Lucy tries to protect her territory.

Boardwalk Empire wins at SAGs

Boardwalk Empire has continued its success in awards season by picking up two awards at yesterday’s Screen Actors Guild Awardsfor Outstanding Ensemble, Drama Series and for Outstanding Male Actor in a Drama for Steve Buscemi. Modern Family claimed Outstanding Ensemble, Comedy Series while Betty White was honoured for her role in comedy series Hot In Cleveland.

Directors Guild honours Boardwalk Empire, Modern Family

Boardwalk Empire and Modern Family have also proved successful at the recent Directors Guild Awards by claiming the top prizes for drama and comedy. Boardwalk Empire scooped the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Dramatic Series award while Modern Family took the same award for comedy.

Piers Morgan’s ratings drop by 75%

Piers Morgan has seen his ratings drop by 75% for his new CNN talkshow in the US, after drawing only 498,000 viewers for the latest episode. Piers Morgan Tonight peaked on January 17 with 2.1 million during his interview with Oprah Winfrey but dropped substantially for his chat with Kardashian sisters, Kim and Kourtney.

Vampire Diaries actor to guest on CSI: NY

Vampire Diaries actor Taylor Kinney will join CSI: NY for a guest role later in the show’s current season. Kinney, who played Mason on The Vampire Diaries, has also appeared in Bones.

As Nucky re-evaluates his relationship with Lucy, Margaret starts a new job at an upscale French dress shop at the Ritz. Chalky’s team pays a heavy price for taking over Mickey Doyle’s bootleg operation, causing Chalky to re-evaluate his relationship with Nucky. And after questioning Angela’s loyalty, Jimmy heads west.

HFPA president labels Gervais’ performance “unacceptable”

Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Philip Berk has labelled Ricky Gervais’ performance at the recent Golden Globe Awards as “unacceptable”. Berk, who was the butt of one of the comedian’s jokes, said that he believes Gervais crossed the line but that you expect the unexpected when you hire the likes of him.

Boardwalk Empire producer hints at second season 

Boardwalk Empire executive producer Terence Winter has hinted at the second season of the series, saying that the main story for the second run will continue to develop the stories from the first season. Winters confirmed that while there will be new characters, the same core cast will remain on the series.

New Spartacus lead announced

Australian actor Liam McIntyre has landed the lead role in the second season of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, replacing the departed Andy Whitfield. The former Neighbours actor, who also featured on The Pacific last year, will begin work on the series in a couple of months.

Morgan bans Mills from CNN show

Piers Morgan has banned several celebrities from ever appearing on his new CNN talkshow, with Heather Mills at the top of the list. Morgan claimed his reasoning was due to the fact that it was him who introduced her to Paul McCartney in the first place.

Investigating a crime which he feels has been pinned on a scapegoat, straight-arrow Agent Nelson Van Alden pays a visit to Nucky and leaves convinced that the Treasurer is “as corrupt as the day is long.” Nucky quickly does damage control, enlisting his brother, Sheriff Elias Thompson, to close ranks with their underlings. Meanwhile, in Chicago, Al Capone shows a local reporter what he thinks about accusations that Johnny Torrio was involved in the slaying of local mobster “Big Jim” Colosimo. Back in Atlantic City, Nucky discusses the upcoming election with his aging mentor, Commodore Louis Kaestner, with whom he debates the women’s vote issue.

Later, before heading out for a night on the town, Nucky rebukes an irate Arnold Rothstein over the phone, then meets privately with Margaret Schroeder, who asks him for help in providing for her children. As a long day ends, a traveling salesman named George Baxter, in town for a few days with an unwilling young beauty named Claudia, makes a startling discovery while on the road home to Baltimore.

Glee and Boardwalk Empire successful at Golden Globes

Glee and Boardwalk Empire proved the big winners at yesterday’s Golden Globe Awards with the former picking up three awards and the latter two. Glee collected ‘Best Comedy Series’ as well as the two ‘Best Supporting Actor/Actress’ awards for Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer. Boardwalk Empire was named ‘Best Drama Series’ and Steve Buscemi collected the ‘Best Actor’ drama gong. A full list of winners can be found here.

Gervais doubts third Golden Globes appearance

Ricky Gervais has said he doubts he will be invited back to host the Golden Globes again next year following his controversial performance yesterday. The Office creator fired off shots during the night at the likes of Charlie Sheen, The Tourist and the Church of Scietology and says he will be surprised if they ask him to return for a third year in 2012.

MTV orders book adaptation

MTV has ordered a brand new series based on the book I Just Want My Pants Back. The series is reported to be a “youthful romantic dramedy” set in New York which focuses on 22-year-old Jason Strider as he and his friends negotiate the path to adulthood. MTV’s head of programming says: “[The series] found its right home. It has an amazing, authentic, 20-something voice, feels contemporary and relatable, and will connect with the audience.”

Anne Hathaway lands Glee role

Glee creator Ryan Murphy has confirmed that Anne Hathaway will film a guest appearance on the series. The actress will take on the role of a character’s aunt during her stint in the show’s second season.
