TVNZ economics journalist Nadine Chalmers-Ross will present TV ONE’s Business Breakfast Programme next year.

Nadine has been reporting for TVNZ’s business news and has been the back-up presenter on NZI Business since she started with TVNZ almost two years ago.

“Nadine is an outstanding talent, a respected journalist and broadcaster with an enviable knowledge of the business and economic challenges facing New Zealand. She’s the obvious choice to take over from Corin Dann,” says TVNZ’s Head of News and Current Affairs, Anthony Flannery.

Nadine begins presenting the half hour show when it returns at 6am on the 24th of January 2011.

An election will be held sometime before the end of November so there will be a lot of focus on the economy, next year’s budget and business generally – a prospect that doesn’t faze Nadine in the least.

“Corin leaves big shoes to fill. Breakfast Business is a demanding role anyway, let alone heading into an election year with the government’s deficit sitting at more than 15 billion dollars, many sectors of the economy still struggling, a high dollar and drought in several parts of the country – that challenge promises to be particularly demanding. But it is one I will relish,” says Chalmers-Ross.

She takes over the role from Corin with his total support.

Dann, who co-hosts Breakfast with Petra Bagust next year, paid tribute to Nadine in his final business blog on Friday.

“Nadine Chalmers-Ross – it’s been fantastic working it’s been fantastic working with you. You are an immense talent with an incredible business knowledge. I wish you the very best for next year”.

Nadine Chalmers-Ross is from the Hawke’s Bay and was Dux of Taradale High School before deciding on a career in journalism that began in the tiny newsroom of local music radio station, Hot 93FM.

Nadine has a Bachelor of Broadcasting Communications, majoring in Journalism from the NZ Broadcasting School at CPIT. While there she won the John Foy Memorial scholarship for best radio news, and the student journalism category at the Qantas awards.

Nadine initially worked for Radio New Zealand as a general news reporter before deciding to specialise in business/economics.

While at RNZ she won the prestigious Best New Broadcaster category at the New Zealand Radio Awards and became the inaugural Ian Templeton scholar which enabled her to study political reporting.

Nadine covered the 2008 election for Radio NZ National just prior to joining TVNZ.
