C4

As a tribute to the passing of the single greatest pop star ever, C4 is playing Michael Jackson videos exclusively on their playlist.

Join them as they relive some of the best moments in music history as music videos and concert footage remember an incredibly successful, and at times, tragic life.

What’s on this week?

Monday 15 June

Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Wrestling Championship – 7:30PM on C4 – This must belong in the so bad it must be good file, right?  Right…?

Brothers and Sisters – 9:30PM on 2 – Part 2 from last week.

Flight of the Conchords: Best Ever! – 10PM on Prime – Not sure exactly what this is, but Bret and Jemaine = funny.

Tuesday 16 June

Man Vs Wild – 7:30PM on Prime – Wondering what’s safe to eat in the wilderness?  Watch this to find out.

Lie to Me – 8:30PM on TV3 – Tim Roth is great as the human lie detector.

Movie: 16 Blocks – 8:30PM on 2 – Action thriller with Bruce Willis and Mos Def.

Wednesday 17 June

Movie: Reality Bites – 8:30PM on C4 – Drama starring Winona Ryder and Ben Stiller.

Lost – 8:30PM on 2 – Part 1 of the 2 part finale

The Sunshine Strip – 9:30PM on Prime – New Australian crime drama starring Aaron Jeffery.

Thursday 18 June

Movie: Rocky Balboa – 8:30PM on Prime – The most recent and (with any luck) final film in the Rocky series, and it’s really not as bad as you’d expect.

24 – 9:30PM on C4 – 24 is quickly heading towards its conclusion, don’t miss a minute.

Sport: FIFA Confederations Cup – The All Whites take on South Africa.

Friday 19 June

The Big Bang Theory – 8:00PM on 2

The Closer – 8:30PM on One

Sport: NRL – 9:30PM on Sky Sport 2 – Friday Night Football begins with the Bulldogs facing the Panthers.

My pick for the week is an easy one: Lost.  For those keeping track – I totally called weeks ago that TV2 would split up the 2 part double episode that was designed to be shown together.  Shame on you TVNZ!  But still, watch it anyway.

One lucky C4 viewer will be taking a friend to see Michael Jackson LIVE in London on July 13th.

What happened to C4! Less than a year ago it was claiming to be a “Music Television” channel (yeah right), but it has apparently now “evolved” to be an “all-round entertainment channel”! Really?

You see i used to really like C4, with great shows such as “Special Features“, “Intellectual Property” and the “New Releases show!
But then it started to show “MTV” shows, which wasn’t so bad, but let’s be honest, how many shows can you have about whiny girls just blinking all the time, or dating shows with irreverent washed up rappers/rockers darting trashy ho’s tying to find “the one” but ending up split up which leads to (shocking) a second season to do the whole thing all over again!
The channel reached new lows recently when it started screening “Hogan Knows Best” and now i can’t stand to watch it head towards termination!

There just seems to be no consistency! It still has some of it’s music content (“Special Features“and “Select Live“) which is great but it’s once it hits 6PM that it just seems to fall apart. I mean who wants to watch repeats of “Punk’d” and “King Of The Hill“! We are then saved by the amazing “Family Guy” but then it’s all so so from 7:30 onwards!
They do have some of the best shows on tv; “30 Rock“, “Family Guy“, “Skins“; but with “Flavor of Love” and “Beauty and the Geek“, the appeal is few and far between!
Then they get a show like “Girls of the Playboy Mansion” which is a good show, but just has no place on C4! And what’s with “Battle star Gallactica” randomly on at 8:30! C4 just seems like TV3‘s rubbish bin (with “90210” being shifted after a poor run on TV3) and has no character to it!

So here’s the deal: Revise, Revise and Make Cuts!
Get rid of the shit shows that belong on Skys the Box and fix your schedule! Great shows that they could get include ” Supernatural“, “Dollhouse” and “The Cleveland Show“! And even have a shot at getting some making some great NZ tv shows; it worked or Go Girls and Outrageous Fortune so see if you can incorporate more NZ into your line-up!

O and get rid of Sunday Night Movies and have your best shows repeat that weeks episode for catch ups!

What do you think of the new branding of C4?

Winter sport is well under way. Rugby League, Rugby, V8s and F1 starting, and Cricket continuing into Autumn. Those sports lovers with Sky will be looking forward to a winter in front of the box.

Don’t forget that the TV3+1 channel will be launched on Freeview Channel 8 on Tuesday the 31st. It will contain all the same programming as the regular TV3, but one hour delayed. Will you use it?

My pick for the week is Hell’s Kitchen. I would say the competition is heating up but that would be a terrible pun. This is one of only a couple of ”reality“ shows I enjoy, and Gordon Ramsay is always amusing, although I am a little surprised about the 7:30 timeslot. The swearing is all bleeped out but for anyone older than 12 it’s not difficult to work out the words behind them, I would have thought an 8:30 timeslot might have been more appropriate, but that’s just me.

The NRL started well for the Warriors, how will they fare against the defending premiers?  The V8 Supercars start this weekend with the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

My pick for the week is hidden away in the middle of the night: The Wire on Monday.  This (should) be the start of the fifth and final season of what I consider to be the best TV drama ever.  It’s a cop show that isn’t a cop show.  If you’ve been watching it and enjoying it then don’t miss the last season.  If you haven’t, set your VCR/PVR/MySkyHDi and give it a go.

Friday 20 March
New Zealand’s Next Top Model – 7:30PM on TV3 – Competition continues
Rove – 8:30PM on 3

The NRL competition starts this week, with the Warriors facing the Eels at Mt Smart on Saturday night. They’ll be hoping to go one game further in 2009 than their grand final qualifier last year, and their new purchases will go some way to helping them get there.

My pick for the week is the series premiere of True Blood on Wednesday night on Prime. Anna Paquin won a Golden Globe for best Actress in a Drama series for her role in the show last month. It takes a while to get used to the tone of the show, but it’s an enjoyable drama if you buy into it.

TV3 has rung the changes in the last week or two.  Heroes gone (although Prison Break has returned).  Burn Notice gone: after four episodes it’s replaced with CSI: Miami?  Please…  Californication going: TV Guide is pulling the old ”Final“ trick, but after five episodes, just how stupid do you think we are?  What’s on next week instead of Californication?  ”Real Prison Breaks.“  Seriously.

My pick for the week is the new season of the HBO show starring the NZ musical duo, Flight of the Conchords.  It’s a great show, so I hope you have Prime!

What’s on this week?

Border Patrol – 8:00PM on One – The number one rated show in recent weeks.
For the girls:
Desperate Housewives & Brothers and Sisters – 8:30PM-10:30PM on TV2.

Sport: IRB World Cup Sevens 2009 – 11:00PM on One

The new and returning shows have been on for a few weeks now, people have decided what they’re watching because they’re still hooked, and what has become boring and stale.
As for me, I’m watching House, Lost, and 24 still. I’m willing to give Go Girls a shot, and I’m not at all surprised that TV3 have pulled Heroes and Prison Break, networks can be fickle that way.
And Go The Black Caps!!

What are you looking forward to this week? Which returning shows have sucked you back in? Are you still watching Grey’s Anatomy?
