Caillou

Daily at 9:35am and 1:35pm

Growing up is the greatest adventure, especially when you are four years old. Caillou is the beloved hero of preschool kids internationally, who loves to play make-believe with his friends, and delights in the small wonders of the world around him. Caillou plays daily at 9:35am and 1:35pm on TVNZ Kidzone on TVNZ 6.

Caillou is about discovery and imagination. Each episode looks at a simple everyday life situation that may seem overwhelming to a child and turns it on its head – looking at new ways to understand and interpret situations.
Thanks to his boundless imagination, Caillou has a different take on the world and everything around him becomes an opportunity to play: the familiar garden suddenly becomes a dense, uncharted jungle… and Caillou turns into a brave explorer!

Young viewers, who are used to playing make-believe, will be thrilled to see Caillou playing just as they do. Captivated by his lively imaginary adventures, they will be inspired to use their imaginations even more to make up adventures of their own.

Role playing is a useful tool for pre-schoolers. By using their imagination, children can visualise doing things they have never done: they are empowered beyond their years and dare to try and discover new things. They can be invisible, invincible, big or small, cleverer, funnier, faster and stronger. Role-playing teaches children to cope with strong emotions like anger, sadness and jealousy and thereby accomplish feats they would never have thought possible.

But Caillou distinguishes between real life and pretending. When Caillou is done playing make-believe, he happily returns to the familiar daily routine of a 4-year-old. Indeed, each episode begins and ends firmly anchored in the real world.

Caillou comes from Quebec and is based on the books by Christine L’Heureux and illustrator Hélène Desputeaux.
