Tonight, in the season finale, Chummy receives an unexpected visit from her daunting mother. She is bewildered by her daughter’s lifestyle choice, especially Chummy’s choice of beau and the visit ends badly. But Chummy is given a reason to celebrate as she makes a commitment to Police Constable Noakes that will last a lifetime.

Meanwhile, matters take a startling turn when the police call at Nonnatus House to arrest Sister Monica Joan for shoplifting. With the evidence stacked against her, Sister Monica goes to court, and the possibility of a nun going to prison becomes a very real one.

Tonight, Jenny is placed on the district nursing roster for a few weeks to extend her experience of community practice. During her rounds she attends to Joe, a gentle old soldier, and a friendship forms.

At the antenatal clinic, Trixie and Cynthia enrol Winnie Lawson as a new patient. In her forties, Winnie had thought her days of nappies and babies were long gone, and seems upset by her pregnancy. By contrast, her husband Ted is overjoyed by the news. However, at the baby’s birth everyone gets a bit of a surprise.
