Living Channel – Saturdays from 3 May. 10.00pm

Classical Destinations is a new experience in travel documentary and storytelling: an exploration of the history and major attractions of Europe’s most beautiful destinations revealed through the lives and music of the great classical composers who lived in them and hosted by renowned actor Simon Callow (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Shakespeare in Love). The characteristics of the area reveal the inspiration for the music, for example the brilliant light of Venice makes sense of the corresponding clarity and vivacity of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Viewers can gain intimate insights into the lives of the composers, such as seeing the grand-daughter of Sibelius playing a work by her grandfather on his original violin and the handwritten original manuscript of Beethovens great Ninth Symphony. These magnificent cities of Europe have never looked – or sounded – better.
