Code 2014CODE, Maori Television’s flagship sports entertainment show, returns for a milestone tenth season on Thursday, May 8 at 8.30pm.

This year’s series runs until August and includes interviews with top sports stars and celebrities, live music and sports challenges – as well as a few additions to the presenting line-up.

maori-tv-logo-300pxFree-To-Air sport seems to be pretty rare these days thanks to Sky’s monopoly on it.  While TVNZ have pretty much given up on it other than covering it in their news bulletins and TV3 having no funds to even consider bidding, thankfully Maori Television are there to at least bring us some sports documentaries.

Maori Television has acquired the rights to some of the greatest sports stories of our time from ESPN’s renowned 30 for 30 and Nine for IX documentary series.

Starting Thursday, October 24 at 8.30pm, the channel will screen 20 documentaries, each one focusing on a particular story or moment in sporting history, usually told from the perspective of the sports star or personality involved at the time.

Maori Television general manager of programming Haunui Royal says the acquisition of the ESPN documentaries shows the broadcaster’s commitment to quality documentary-making. Continue reading »

Code2013Maori Television’s primetime sports series Code celebrates 250 episodes on air tomorrow night.

In this special show, presenters Jenny-May Coffin, Glen Osborne, Awen Guttenbeil, Karl Te Nana and Wairangi Koopu take a trip down memory lane with a look back at some of the highlights, including guests, stories, demonstrations and bands over the past nine years.

Since starting in 2005, CODE has gained a reputation for featuring top sports stars and celebrities. Sir Graham Henry, David Tua, Lisa Carrington, Sarah Walker, Mahe Drysdale, Sonny-Bill Williams, The Harlem Globetrotters and Anthony Mundine are just a few of the famous names to have sat on the CODE couch.
