US TV channel the CW has announced a brand new reality TV series entitled Crowned.

The show features mother-daughter teams working together as pairs to win a beauty pageant competition. The competition will take a close look at one of the most emotional and volatile of all relationships — mothers and daughters — in a highly competitive and stressful situation.

Featuring mothers and daughters from all walks of life, the teams and their relationships will be put to the test as they face challenges that focus on preparing them for the pageant show finale, including expressing a ‘style’ for the mother-daughter via clothing and swimwear, creative ways of expressing a point of view about issues in the world, and participating in the big pageant show dance number. Each week, three judges will oversee the competition, including a celebrity mother-daughter pair to be announced.

In the end, one mother-daughter team will be “crowned” the winner and will receive a valuable prize package, including a $100,000 cash award, representation to appear at charity events across the country, and, of course, a fabulous pair of tiaras.

No word on NZ air dates but this sounds like the type of show for a Saturday afternoon.
