8:00pm Tuesday, April 20 on Prime

Prime is thrilled to bring you Danger Beach; a brand new factual observational series that follows the unsung hero’s of Muriwai’s Surf Lifesaving Club as they put their lives on the line to keep one of New Zealand’s most stunning, yet most dangerous beaches safe. Danger Beach takes viewers inside the world of surf lifesaving and shows some of the most daring and heart-wrenching rescues the country has ever seen.

From dramatic rescue attempts; rock rescues and near drownings; spectacular helicopter pick ups and training mishaps; and a family’s worst nightmare as their child goes missing – Danger Beach has it all.

Filmed through the height of the busy summer season, our young volunteer guards risk their own lives – jumping into surf, racing at high speed on jet skis, smashing through huge waves in IRBs – all in the name of protecting the public. Tonight, it’s one week till Christmas and as the young volunteer lifeguards gear up for busy summer season a young 14-year-old boy is swept off the rocks and is missing from around the corner at Maori Bay.

The thing I love about hanging with the folk at Prime is that while they are genuinely nice people, they really love television.  I mean, they really love television.  So much so that they’re quite comfortable acknowledging that they’re self confessed TV geeks.  Listening to the banter between the presenters at their 2010 Season Launch definitely cemented that.

Prime has experienced some pretty good growth this year, recently achieving its highest peak share.  One can only assume 2010 will see that peak moved higher with a fantastic lineup as well as the Winter Olympics.
