The Simpsons snipes at hand that feeds

The Simpsons has taken another jab at its network, Fox, with a slogan on the side of a Fox News helicopter reading “Unsuitable For Viewers Under 75.”  The jab follows a similar one the week before that read “Not Racist, But #1 With Racists” leading Fox News political commentator Bill O’Reilly to hit back: “Continuing to bite the hand that feeds part of it, Fox broadcasting once again allows its cartoon characters to run wild…pinheads? I believe so.”

Longoria developing three pilots

Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria is currently in the process of developing three separate pilots for various television projects. The actress and her production company are involved in two projects including comedy pilot called Parenting By Committee and a dramatic mini-series to go along with a project she is working on for ABC.

Franco and Hathaway to host Oscars telecast

James Franco and Anne Hathaway have been selected to host next year’s Academy Awards ceremony, which will take place on February 27. Hathaway will be making her fifth appearance on the telecast while for Franco it will be his second.

Elton Johns attacks talent shows again

Elton John has lashed out at television talent shows again, this time berating the producers of the shows for treating their contestants like “products”. John said: “What’s the psychological damage going to be when you’ve humped and dumped them, and the next one comes along? They’re a bit like products, to be honest with you.”

Twilight actor joins new McG series

Twilight actor Jackson Rathbone has signed on to play the lead in a new series from producer McG, whose past producing credits include The O.C., Supernatural and Chuck. Rathbone will play a teenager who doubles as a spy in the new series entitled Aim High.

New Spartacus trailer

The trailer for Spartacus: Gods of the Arena has been released. The new season will act as a mini-series prequel to the popular Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

Hatcher to leave DH

Desperate Housewives actress Teri Hatcher has reportedly told colleagues that she is planning on ending her stint on the show following its next season. The news comes in the wake of creator Mark Cherry’s comments that beyond its ninth season, he has no further plans for the show.

Former Batman signs on for Cartoon Network series

Former TV Batman actor Adam West has joined the voice cast of Cartoon Network series The Super Hero Squad. West will portray the character Nighthawk alongside former Seinfeld actor John O’Hurley who voices The Grandmaster.

Glee reach number two on singles list

The cast of Glee have reached second on the all-time Billboard Hot Digital Songs chart with the number of singles charted. Glee is second to only Elvis Presley in the number of singles to hit the chart following the show’s cover of Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream on the recent episode in the US.

Grammer pilot picked up

A new Kelsey Grammer pilot has been picked up by American network Starz which will focus on the life of the Mayor of Chicago. Grammer is believed to have landed the lead role in the pilot which will be directed by Gus Van Sant.

HBO planning True Blood graphic novels

HBO is planning on extending the popularity of vampire series True Blood next year by releasing a graphic novel next year. The graphic novel will run at six issues from the IDW True Blood comic book series with the first available in February 8, 2011.

Chinese government unhappy over Spooks

Papers in the UK are suggesting that the Chinese government is unhappy with BBC series Spooks over its portrayal of Chinese people. Authorities have expressed their anger over its depiction of the Chinese while the BBC simply state that “it blows hot and cold for us in China”.

DH actress to guest on Law & Order: SVU

Desperate Housewives actress Drea de Matteo has landed herself a guest spot on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The actress will play a battered wife in an upcoming episode of the crime series that is likely to air next year.

True Blood adds Ford to cast

True Blood has added actress Courtney Ford to its cast for the show’s fourth season. Ford, who has previously appeared in the likes of The Vampire Diaries, Ugly Betty, and Grey’s Anatomy, will take up a recurring role on the series as a character called Portia.

It’s more solid programming from TV2 in 2011 with some excellent content.  The only thing obviously missing was any sign of new local shows on TV2.

The Stig joins rival motoring show

Top Gear’s The Stig has been recruited by rival motoring show Fifth Gear, which features on the UK’s Channel 4. Ben Collins, the racing driver recently revealed to be the famous test driver, has signed on to feature as a test driver on Fifth Gear in a very similar role.

Producers blame Top Model hitch on human error

The producers behind the now infamous Australia’s Next Top Model live finale mix-up have come to the conclusion that it was “human error” that caused the wrong information to be fed to the show’s host Sarah Murdoch. Any talk of it being a planned publicity stunt has also been quashed by Foxtel.

Wolfe joins Cougar Town

Collette Wolfe, who featured in the movie Hot Tub Time Machine, has signed on for a recurring role on comedy series Cougar Town. Wolfe will join the Courtney Cox series as a graduate student who becomes involved with one of the main characters.

MacLachlan to feature on HIMYM

Desperate Houswives actor Kyle MacLachlan will feature on the new season of How I Met Your Mother in a recurring role. The actor, who played Orson on DH, will feature on at least two episodes of the sitcom.

Wonder Woman series in development

A Wonder Woman series is set to be developed by the showrunner behind the likes of Ally McBeal and Boston Legal. The series will be a modern-day take on the classic DC comic book superhero.

Spielberg planning comic book series

Steven Spielberg is to team up with Star Trek producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to develop a TV series around the comic book Locke and Key. The story centres around the Locke children as they attempt to recover from the murder of their father.

Doctor Who video games launched

A Doctor Who video game is set to be launched on Nintendo DS called Doctor Who: Evacuation Earth and Wii called Doctor Who: Return To Earth. The games are aimed to be family focussed and centre around the Daleks and the Cybermen.

Hurt Locker TV series on the way

American network G4 is developing a new reality show inspired by the Oscar-winning film The Hurt Locker. The ten-episode series entitled Bomb Patrol: Afghanistan will follow a US Navy unit as they go about their lives in the war zone.

Austin joins Desperate Housewives

Reggie Austin has joined the cast of Desperate Housewives for the next season to play the husband of the character to be played by Ugly Betty actress Vanessa Williams.

Emmy presenters announced

The first crop of presenters have been announced for the upcoming Emmy Awards. Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara, Glee’s Matthew Morrison, Mad Men’s January Jones, The Office’s John Krasinski and Ricky Gervais will all present awards at the Jimmy Fallon-hosted ceremony which takes place on August 29.

Desperate Housewives actor joins Gossip Girl

Desperate Housewives and Mad Men actor Sam Page has joined the cast of Gossip Girl for the upcoming season. Page, who played Bree’s scheming step-son on DH recently, will reportedly join the series as a love interest for one of the major characters.

Mandy Moore to return to Grey’s Anatomy

Grey’s Anatomy will regain singer-turned-actress Mandy Moore for the seventh season of the medical drama. Moore has agreed to reprise her role as a patient called Mary who featured in the show’s sixth season.

Soap star to guest on Bones

Soap actor Antonio Sabato Jr. will make an appearance on the latest season of Bones on an episode which has been dubbed as “Jersey Shore-themed”. Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino from the MTV show was also to appear on the episode but talks have since broken down with the reality star.

Lynette (Felicity Huffman) and Angie (Drea De Matteo) find themselves in mortal danger, in the penultimate episode of Desperate Housewives.

After last week’s dramatic confrontation, Angie wakes up handcuffed to her bed, and at the mercy of the sinister Patrick Logan (John Barrowman, Torchwood). As details of her secret former life come to the foreground, ballsy Angie finds herself having to make a terrible choice to protect her family.

Elsewhere, Lynette’s suspicions about Eddie (Josh Zuckerman) are raised when he makes a mistake in his story about his mother’s whereabouts. Slowly piecing things together, the heavily pregnant Lynette makes a shocking realisation about her son’s friend – putting her life, and her unborn baby, in jeopardy.

Rafters actor joins Play School

Packed to the Rafters actor Hugh Sheridan has made his debut on the children’s series Play School in Australia. The actor, who plays Ben on the drama series, will co-host Play School several times a week.

Glee merch on sale soon

The range of Glee products soon to be available to the public prior to the second season will feature the likes of a Wii game entitled Karaoke Revolution Glee, a Glee boom box, board games, greeting cards by Hallmark, apparel, stationery, and “small leather goods”.

Another porn star for Entourage

A male adult film star has landed a guest role in the new season of Entourage alongside fellow performer Sasha Grey. Tommy Gunn will appear in an episode to play the ex-boyfriend of the actress.
