Desperate Housewives

Monday 16 March at 8.30pm on TV2

New Zealand’s number one drama series Desperate Housewives continues tonight on TV2, and the night is full of surprises as we learn what has transpired on Wisteria Lane in the past five years.

Joining the cast in this new season is actor Neal McDonough (Boomtown) who plays Edie’s (Nicollette Sheridan) shady new husband Dave. Driven by a mysterious and malevolent agenda, Dave makes Edie move back to Wisteria Lane and starts a full-blown and calculated charm campaign to win over the lane’s residents.

Katherine is impressed when he fixes her light bulb, the women are surprised and won over by his efforts to smooth their relationship with Edie, and quick to be Tom’s new friend and band buddy, he ingratiates his way into Tom and Lynette’s relationship with an unwanted gift.

But Mrs. McCluskey has her suspicions about him, and is about to become a casualty of his hidden agenda.

Returning to Wisteria Lane in jaw-dropping fashion, and with her new husband in tow, Edie is back to stir up some more trouble.

“It’s going to be a titillating season,” Sheridan teased TV Guide USA in the build up to the season premiere. “Neal is charming, bright and so much fun to work with. His character is definitely different and disturbing in an unusual way.”

On being at the centre of the new season’s mystery Sheridan complements the show’s creator saying, “It was nice to learn that Marc Cherry was giving Edie her due.”

With plans of outing Mrs McClusky, Dave convinces Susan to throw her a surprise party for her 70th birthday. The night promises to be as dramatic as the premise of the party. Jackson wants to take his relationship with Susan to the next level; Gaby’s concerned she might be pregnant; a startling reason for the bond between Bree and Katherine is revealed; and an outraged Mrs. McCluskey has the entire neighbourhood questioning her sanity.

Tune in on Monday at 8.30pm to see if Wisteria Lane will survive Dave’s onslaught.

Hi,

does anyone know the name of the song that plays in the background during the ad about LOST, desperate housewives. The words that come on screen are: DRAMA, LOVE and theres an explosion from one of the LOST episodes. The song is very brief and I can’t make out much of the lyrics but I do know that its a female voice. Any help would be appreciated.

How many lives have been claimed by the tornado? Find out as Desperate Housewives returns from a two-week break.

Marc Cherry, writer and producer of Desperate Housewives loves to include a ‘bang’ episode in every series. This year is no exception with the tornado leaving everyone on Wisteria Lane devastated, mourning the loss of their homes or worse the loss of a friend.
Mike Delfino (played by James Denton) and Susan were in the hospital dealing with the tragedy of Mike’s addiction. He explains that whilst they weren’t on the street when the tornado hit the scenes were a lot of fun to play.

“We do something like that every year. It was the ‘bang’ episode in the supermarket last year but it was a big episode that was sort of out of context from the rest of the season. Whereas the tornado is completely within context because in this show, Wisteria Lane – the street – is actually like a character,” explains James.

“When those big boom shots go down the street, it’s almost like a character on the show. So when the tornado comes through and does some huge destruction it’s going to really affect both the characters and the audience as they see houses blown off of the street and cars flying through the air. I think it’s pretty cool!

Janes goes on to say, “My first thought was I was glad I wasn’t in it but Mike does appear in the episode and it’s actually one of the more fun episodes I have got to play.”

Susan invites Bree and Orson to stay with her until their roof can be repaired. She’s prepared for it to be an ordeal, but instead she and Julie quickly become addicted to Bree’s stellar homemaking skills.

James explains that “the roof gets ripped off Bree and Orson’s house. So they come and stay at our house, this creates some hilarious situations. We’re all enjoying where Marc is taking the show this season”

In the last episode we left Lynette screaming for her family as Karen McCluskey’s house was completely destroyed. In the aftermath of the tornado, Susan and Bree try to assure Lynette that her family will be okay as rescue workers slowly excavate the rubble of Karen McCluskey’s house. And Katherine finds out that someone knows the truth about her mysterious past.

In tonight’s episode of Desperate Housewives, Bree discovers a few problems with her quest to be a better mother the third time around; and actress Marcia Cross is excited about the changes in her character’s life.

Now that baby Benjamin has arrived, Bree is determined to leave behind all the mistakes of the past, and all the secrets that had been holding her back. But unfortunately, her determination makes her a little blind to the feelings of the men in her life – her husband, Orson, and oldest son, Andrew.
Marcia Cross explains; “I think Bree realises she made mistakes with her kids, and she desperately wants this chance to do it again and do it right. I know she feels she sort of failed, although I think her relationships with her kids are progressing. But, I’m not sure she is really conscious of what she actually did wrong the first time.”

A new side to Bree is brought out in tonight’s episode, when she is distraught to find her parenting ideas are making Orson unhappy. With her dream being not just to be the perfect mother, but also the perfect wife, Bree asks the advice of father-of-five, Tom Scavo. Tom and Lynette have had to get creative when it comes to finding time away from their brood, and his advice to Bree is sure to put the smile back on Orson’s face.

Marcia is having a particularly fun fourth season on Desperate Housewives, where she not only has a second chance at motherhood, she also has a new neighbour – who has turned into a nemesis. Dana Delaney was originally asked by creator Marc Cherry to play the part of Bree, but luckily, she waited until now to become a part of the hit series as Katherine Mayfair. The new addition seems as picture perfect as Bree, but also has a secret to hide, and the two redheads are a match made in soap heaven.

“I love the scenes with Dana Delaney,” says Cross, “they just somehow have a little sparkle and fire to them. It’s always really great to have someone to tangle with, it really is a blast. Plus, having an adversary really made me look closer at Bree, because I thought, well, what’s different about these two women? They’re both homemakers and sort of ‘waspy’, but their souls are different. I think Bree’s a little goofier.”

See Bree’s parenting obsession take off tonight; while detectives question Gabrielle about Victor’s disappearance, Mike’s drug dealer drops by and charms Susan, and Lynette reunites with her long-lost stepfather.

One of the most popular and sexy characters from Desperate Housewives season one returns tonight. Don’t miss Jessie Metcalfe’s return to Wisteria Lane as John the gardener; who wants to rekindle his romance with Gaby.

John Rowland, the Solis’ former gardener, returns tonight to jeopardise Gabrielle’s affair with Carlos… with whom she is cheating on her husband, Victor. Her love-life has never been straight-forward, with John originally living in fear of Carlos finding out his wife was cheating. Now, Carlos ends up being the one hiding in closets as Gaby fears John finding out about them may just lead to Victor finding out too. And if Victor does find out, the consequences could be deadly.

Carlos has told Edie he’s going off on a golfing weekend with the guys when he’s really sneaking away to meet Gaby. Gaby is just about to leave when she notices that a cable van has been parked across the street for an unusually long time. Guessing that Victor has hired someone to tail her, she sneaks out of her house in disguise. She arrives at the hotel for her rendezvous with Carlos and runs into John and his hotel heiress wife, then later that night John comes knocking on the hotel room door. Since John’s father-in-law is a friend of Victor’s, she tells Carlos to hide.

The mayor of Fairview isn’t the only vengeful partner who could find out though – Edie is also in danger of discovering Carlos is cheating on her… just what is it that is keeping him tied to her? There really is nothing quite like a Desperate Housewife scorned, as Nicolette Sheridan explains, her character Edie is “at her wits’ end, and is feeling the need to manipulate. She really did fall for Carlos and his being not interested really threw her. You get a glimpse of her demons.”

While Gabrielle’s love-quadrangle is getting more complicated, the housewives next door are freaking out about modern art. Gay couple Bob and Lee have been embraced by the Wisteria Lane ladies, but their sense of style is about to be roundly criticised. The addition of a contemporary water sculpture to their front garden prompts the Neighbourhood Association into action, and an election must be held to find a new president – which brings with it intense rivalry.

Katherine decides to run for president of the association, which has languished since the death of its former president, Mary Alice. But since Katherine hates the sculpture, Bob and Lee get Lynette to run against her. The whole debacle brings about an interesting turn of events that reveals the street’s newest couple may be able to shed some lighton the mystery surrounding Katherine, her husband, her daughter… and what went wrong in Chicago.

Monday 3 March at 8.30pm on TV2

Desperate Housewives is a truly contemporary primetime soap with a darkly comedic look at suburbia – where the secret lives of housewives aren’t always what they seem.

This season, new emotional turmoil is brewing for the circle of girlfriends on Wisteria Lane. Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher) has finally married the love of her life, Mike Delfino, but is now faced with the her daughter Julie’s difficulties with Mike’s role in her life. Across the road, Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman) struggles with work and family issues while trying to fight cancer. Lynette’s illness doesn’t mean her marital problems will vanish, and she finds that the way her friends and family respond to it is the toughest part of the battle.

Meanwhile, Bree Hodge (Marcia Cross) clings to her image of perfection as it looks to be crumbling around her – trying to hide her daughter’s pregnancy by faking one of her own is taking its toll. And newly married Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria) – who almost had everything she ever wanted – is longing for a husband she truly loves.

The Desperate Housewives are also joined by several new neighbours, who bring with them a whole lot more mystery and gossip. They include Dana Delaney as Katherine Mayfair, and Lyndsey Fonseca as her daughter Dylan. It soon becomes apparent that every member of the Mayfair family is hiding something. Katherine, who lived on Wisteria Lane 12 years ago, has changed a lot while she’s been away in Chicago. She claims to have moved back to take care of her dying aunt, but something more scandalous is the true cause.

Delaney joins the show at long last, after creator Mark Cherry originally asked her to play the part of Bree. She explains that back then the timing wasn’t right, but this time when Cherry approached her with a part he referred to as “the uber-housewife”, she says; “I was ready to have some fun.”

The actress is also a big fan of her new character and the intrigue surrounding her. She says; “Katherine left under mysterious circumstances in the middle of the night, and is now returning with a new husband who is a young gynaecologist; and her daughters Dylan, who is now 16 and seems strangely unlike the daughter she left with. But what I like about her is that she is not entirely evil. Hopefully you get a sense that there’s a reason why she’s different to how she was 12 years ago.”

Also coming up in the new season are a new couple, gay partners Lee and Bob, played by Kevin Rahm and Tuc Watkins. They arrive in Fairview looking for a more homey place after living in the big city. But these particular neighbours are certainly not what they expected!

With the new neighbours, plus a new love interest for Julie, flashbacks seeing some characters in younger days, a major natural disaster and even a death… this year on Desperate Housewives looks set to be one of the most intriguing yet.

Television series Desperate Housewives has fallen victim to Hollywood’s writers’ strike, as analysts grimly forecast the feud may rumble on for months.

The show is among the first major US network series to go into shutdown because of the strike, which began on Monday after bitter contract talks between writers and producers broke down.

Production on new episodes of the sitcom was reportedly to stop today.
