Disney Channel

On Friday night, Disney Channel premieres Teen Beach Movie and earlier this week I sat down with one of the stars of the movie who was in town on a promotional tour.  The film is the latest franchise to come out of Disney and is now the #2 movie in cable TV history behind High School Musical 2 so it’s kind of a big deal, especially if you’re in the youth demographic.

Disney and YouTube are set to announce a $10-15 million content partnership.

The New York Times is reporting that the agreement will see YouTube investing millions of dollars in new original programming that will be produced by Disney and screened on a new co-branded channel.

The output will be distributed on both YouTube and Disney.com.

YouTube recently outlined a plan to bring more premium content to the site through a slew of new video channels. However, YouTube has emphasised that it will continue to act as a distributor and not move in to production.

“It’s imperative to go where our audience is,” said James A. Pitaro, co-president of Disney Interactive. He said that the aim of the partnership is to “bring Disney’s legacy of storytelling to a new generation of families and Disney enthusiasts on the platforms they prefer.”

Friday 13 March, 4.30pm on DISNEY CHANNEL

Phineas Flynn and his stepbrother, Ferb Fletcher, set out to conquer boredom and make every day of their 104-day summer vacation count, in Disney Channel’s Emmy-nominated animated comedy series “Phineas and Ferb”. However, their older sister, Candace, gets frantic at her brothers’ extraordinary adventures and makes it her life’s work to tattle on them to Mum and Dad… but somehow she’s never quite able to prove what the boys have done. On every adventure Phineas and Ferb are accompanied by their pet platypus, Perry, who seems to be a docile mindless family pet, but unbeknownst to everyone, including Phineas and Ferb, Perry has a secret life as suave Agent P, deftly battling the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz to save the world.

In “Interview with a Platypus”, Phineas and Ferb wonder what Perry is really saying when he makes his little noise, so they build an animal translator. Perry, reluctant to reveal his secrets, slips away before they can test it on him. Word quickly spreads through the animal community, however, and soon every animal in the neighbourhood has lined up to air their grievances. Candace, upset that her date with Jeremy was thwarted by his sister Suzy’s mean dog, mouths off about how awful animals are just as she enters a backyard overflowing with agitated four-legged creatures. Across town, Dr. Doofenshmirtz plans to flood the streets of Danville so he can sell Buoyancy Operated Aquatic Transports to everyone.

Then, in “Tip of the Day”, when Dad needs to know the name of the piece of plastic at the end of a shoelace for a crossword puzzle, the boys are amazed to find that no one seems to know what it is called. After discovering the word “aglet” online, they decide to tell the whole world about it. Candace can’t believe what a pointless, asinine thing this is to do and is further appalled when she sees people are actually interested in this information. Phineas and Ferb go so far as to create Aglet Aid, a Live Aid-type event to educate the world. Meanwhile a video of Doofenshmirtz dancing in his underwear is a hit on the internet, and he wants to erase everyone’s memory so they won’t remember seeing it.

Monday 9 March at 5pm on DISNEY CHANNEL

You’ll be charmed this March when Disney Channel premieres a magical new episode of your favourite Disney Channel Original Series, “Wizards of Waverly Place”.

Alex Russo and her brothers Justin and Max are a lot like the teens in their Manhattan neighbourhood but they have one significant difference… they come from a long line of wizards and they must learn to hone their budding magical powers or soon risk losing them.

In “Fairy Tale”, as director of the school’s production of “Peter Pan,” Justin casts Harper to play Tinkerbell, but Alex is forced to step in and play the role when Harper is sidelined by an injury. Meanwhile, Max writes a review of the play for the school paper.

You’ll be enchanted with “Wizards of Waverly Place” on Disney Channel.
