9:30pm Wednesday, April 13 on TV2

TV2 comedy Drop Dead Diva follows the misadventures of a stunning but shallow trainee model who was reincarnated as a sensible, caring, overweight lawyer.

When the gorgeous but gormless model wannabe Deb (Brooke D’Orsay) found herself in front of heaven’s gatekeeper, Fred (Ben Feldman), following a fatal car crash, she cajoles Fred into returning her to her shallow existence; but is accidentally sent into the body of the recently deceased plus-size attorney Jane Bingum (Brooke Elliott).

The show’s star, Elliot, explains that she loves being a role model for women and making the statement that big is beautiful. “I think one of the great benefits [of playing a larger woman on TV] is saying that you’re great the way you are, and if you don’t want to fit into the runway style, you don’t have to. There’s not one way to define beauty and there’s not one way we all have to be. And that’s one of the great things about life is that we’re all different.”

Elliot admits that before landing the role of the fashionable plus-sized lawyer she didn’t know much about style. “I’m kind of learning a lot about fashion, to tell you the truth. That’s something that I’m learning from playing this character, like what goes with what. It’s really fun,” she laughs. “I like to wear my pajamas everywhere I possibly can. I like pajamas a lot!”

For Elliot it’s all about feeling great, rather than compromising her own comfort to fit inside someone else’s expectations. “I feel like the biggest beauty tip – in terms of fashion – is to wear what makes you comfortable … What I do to feel good is I put on mascara because I’m a big mascara girl. I love blush and I love lipstick. So that’s what I do when I want to feel even more beautiful,” she says.

Coming up in this week’s episode of Drop Dead Diva, Rosie O’Donnell (The Rosie O’Donnell Show) guest stars as Judge Madeline Stone, who has been looking for some romance with the help of a match-making service, but Jane (Brooke Elliott) soon discovers that the match-makers are committing fraud. Liza Minnelli (Sex And The City 2) also guest stars as one half of a feuding psychic sister team who don’t want to share the family business.
